SeaRenergy Receives Order

SeaRenergy Offshore has been selected by Siemens for the transportation and installation of two HVDC converter platforms for the offshore wind cluster BorWin 2 and HelWin 1 in the North Sea. The platforms which consist of a base frame and a topside shall be towed from Nordic Yards in Wismar and Warnemünde to the designated sites in the North Sea. SeaRenergy will install the converter platform BorWin 2 about 125 kilometers off the coast, northwest of the island of Borkum, in a water depth of about 40 meters. BorWin 2 will be connected to the wind farms Veja Mate and Global Tech 1, which will have a combined power generating capacity of 800 megawatts (MW).

Widdows to Lead Rickmers

Ron Widdows to take over from Jan B Steffens as CEO of Rickmers Holding and Rickmers-Linie. After ten very successful years with the Rickmers Group and especially, with Rickmers-Linie, Jan B Steffens will by 31 March 2012 step down from the twin positions of CEO of Rickmers Holding and of Rickmers-Linie although he will continue to serve on the Rickmers Group advisory board. Ronald D Widdows, former CEO of NOL/APL, is to become the new Chief Executive Officer of Rickmers Holding and Rickmers-Linie as of 1 April 2012. Rickmers Linie extends its executive board

Ulrich Ulrichs.

Rickmers-Linie, part of Hamburg’s Rickmers Group, has extended its executive board. Rüdiger Gerhardt has been appointed Managing Director and Ulrich Ulrichs becomes Deputy Managing Director. Mr Gerhardt has been working for Rickmers since 1978. Previous to his new position, he was Director for Human Resources, Administration and Finance. His new role will also include leading the business division “Logistics Services“ at Rickmers Group. Mr Ulrichs has been in charge of Line Management since 2005 and has been Director of this division since 2008.

Ten New Vessels for Rickmers-Linie

Rickmers-Linie, the Hamburg-based specialist in the global transportation of breakbulk, heavylift and project cargo, has secured for itself ten new purpose-built multipurpose vessels, which are to be added to its fleet between 2009 and 2011. All ten will be built by Chinese shipyards and are to be deployed in Rickmers-Linie’s worldwide services, replacing older tonnage and securing capacity for the further development of the network. Six 19,000 dwt ships will be built by Tongfang Shipyard. Each vessel will be equipped with two 240-tonne cranes, capable of working in tandem to lift 480 tonnes. One of the three holds, no 3, will have a hatch opening of 52.50m x 18m and the tweendecks will be adjustable…

A Japanese Space Mission for Rickmers

Space may be the final frontier but in this instance, the craft setting out on a momentous voyage was not the starship Enterprise but Rickmers New Orleans, one of nine identical ships maintaining Rickmers-Linie’s bi-weekly Round-the-World Pearl String service for heavylift and project cargo. On board was the Experiment Logistics Module - Pressurized Section (ELM-PS), which forms part of the Japanese Experiment Module Kibo (meaning ‘hope’), part of the Japanese contribution to the International Space Station (ISS). Rickmers New Orleans loaded the ELM-PS in Yokohama on February 7 and discharged it in Port Canaveral, close to NASA’s Kennedy Space Center.

Rickmers-Linie Christens Rickmers Antwerp

Rickmers Antwerp, the sixth of nine new Superflex Heavy Multi-Purpose Container (MPC) vessels being built in China for Rickmers-Linie, the Hamburg-based global project liner and heavy lift specialist, was officially named in Antwerp, her name-sake city on 16 June 2003. The vessel, which is now operating within the company’s newly inaugurated Pearl String Service, was christened by Mrs Beb Van Mechelen, the wife of Mr Dirk Van Mechelen, the Flemish Minister for Finance and Budget, Innovation, the Media, Town and Country Planning. Bertram Rickmers and Jan Boje Steffens, CEO of Rickmers-Linie, met international business partners, officials and international journalists with a warm welcome to this event.
