Ingram Marine Group Promotes Three

Ingram Marine Group, an inland marine transportation companies, announced the following executive leadership promotions. Dale Heller, former Vice President and Chief Information Officer, has been promoted to Senior Vice President and CIO. Allen Oldham, previously Vice President of Finance and Business Development, and Controller, has been named Senior Vice President and Controller. Jim Lanier, who has served as Assistant Vice President of Internal Audit, Ingram Industries Inc., has been promoted to Vice President, Finance, Support Operations and Analysis. "As we continue to grow Ingram Marine Group, we are continuing to build on an already established leadership team by realigning these executives with increasing responsibilities," said Craig Philip, President and Chief Executive Officer.

PHA Commission Considers $9.9m Share of Dredging Project

The Port Commission of The Portof Houston Authority will consider funding a $9.9m share of a Houston Ship Channel dredging and maintenance project and several other matters at its public meeting on August 28 in Houston. Chairman Jim Edmonds will preside over the meeting with Commissioner Steve Phelps, Commissioner Jim Fonteno, Commissioner Kase Lawal, Commissioner Jimmy Burke, Commissioner Janiece Longoria and Commissioner Elyse Lanier.

Lanier Re-Appointed Port Commission, Houston

The Port of Houston Authority announced that Elyse Lanier has been re-appointed to serve as a member of the Port Commission, its governing body. The vote on October 12 by the Harris County Commissioners Court was unanimous. Commissioner Lanier was initially appointed to the Port Commission in February 2006. Port Commissioners serve two-year terms without pay. “Elyse Lanier is a prime example of the kind of people that make Houston and Harris County such a wonderful place to live and work,” said Harris County Judge Ed Emmett.

Former Congressman Jim Oberstar Passes Away

Houston Port Commission Adopts Vision, Mission Statement, Core Values

The Port Commission of the Port of Houston Authority approved and adopted a vision, mission statement and the core values of the Port of Houston Authority, as well as a Memorandum of Friendship and Trade Cooperation between the Port of San Pedro, Cote d'Ivoire, and the Port of Houston Authority, among several matters acted on during the July 26 meeting. Port Commissioners also gave brief updates on recent meetings of the standing task forces organized at the May 24 Port Commission meeting. Commissioner Jim Fonteno said discussions were underway on financial reporting and the other matters that would be the focus of the Audit Task Force, and he expected the group's formal charter to be brought to the Port Commission for consideration next month.

Kennedy Appointed to Houston Port Commission

Retired U.S. Army Colonel and Former Nassau Bay City Manager  Fills Seat. Harris County Commissioners Court appointed Ret. Col. John D. Kennedy to serve as a member of the Port Commission of the Port of Houston Authority. His appointment fills the seat of former Port Commissioner Elyse Lanier, who tendered her resignation to the Harris County Commissioners Court this past Friday, indicating her desire to spend more time with her family. Kennedy's military service, as well as his professional career and community involvement in the greater Houston area spans the course of several decades.

West Coast Waterfront Coalition Asks for Balanced Security

In a letter sent to every member of the United States Senate, the West Coast Waterfront Coalition expressed its general support for the Port and Maritime Security Act (S. 1214), but called on the Senate to make two critical changes to the bill before passing it. The group called on the Senate “to remember the importance that our West Coast Ports play in the national economy,” and “to be sensitive to the needs of U.S. businesses all across the country for the rapid movement of inputs to production, parts, and finished products.” In the letter, signed by West Coast Waterfront Coalition Executive Director Robin Lanier, the group called on the Senate to include new provisions in the bill that would require identification cards and background checks for port workers.

EBDG Remembers James A. Cole

EBDG announced the passing of Jim Cole. Over the span of a half century, Jim distinguished himself as among the best in his field, demonstrating extensive expertise in the design of a variety of vessel types ranging from ferries, innovative tugs and his beloved fishing boats. Jim earned a degree in Industrial Design from the University of Washington in 1957 entering Seattle's marine industry during the crab-boat boom of the 1960s, and gaining experience in Tacoma during the era of large tuna seiners. He would soon return to Seattle where he worked at Foss Shipyard for nearly 20 years.

EBDG Adds Chief Engineer Position

Elliott Bay Design Group (EBDG) is pleased to announce that Jim Towers, P.E. has been promoted to Chief Engineer. As part of the firm's continual efforts to provide outstanding technical services, EBDG created the Chief Engineer position to enhance its processes for creating, reviewing, and working with technical documents. As Chief Engineer, Jim's role will have him working closely with EBDG Project Managers to establish the technical content of their projects and to provide a consistent approach to engineering. Jim has 30 years experience in vessel design and construction. He is a licensed Professional Engineer in Naval Architecture and Marine Engineering in the province of British Columbia, Canada, the state of Washington, and is a Registered Chartered Engineer in the United Kingdom.

Supplier of bunker fuels, A/S Dan-Bunkering Ltd., has appointed Bunker Trader Jim Jensen from the office in Copenhagen to Sales Manager. The Danish owned company already has offices in Denmark, China, Russia, Singapore and Monaco, and will shortly open their latest addition to the Dan-Bunkering group in Houston (Texas) USA. Jim will in connection with his promotion be a part of the new office in Houston, and will start up the office together with Managing Director Hans Lind Dollerup.

EBDG New SNAME Fellows

Elliott Bay Design Group LLC (EBDG) announced that Douglas Wolff and James Cole have been named Society of Naval Architects and Marine Engineers (SNAME) Fellows. Doug Wolff joined EBDG in 1992 and serves as Vice President of Staff Operations. He has a BS in Naval Architecture and Marine Engineering from Webb Institute of Naval Architecture and is a registered Professional Engineer in the states of Washington, Oregon, North Carolina and Louisiana. For over 30 years, Doug has applied his engineering expertise to new vessel design, modifications and construction liaison. He is one of the firm's workboat experts, having extensive experience designing barges, ATBs, tugs, towboats and research vessels.

Pugh Named Director Marine Highways

MarAd has named James D. Pugh to head its Office of Marine Highways and Passenger Services in   Jim will focus on expanding the use of ’s coastal, intracoastal and inland waterways to reduce landside congestion, reduce energy consumption and increase opportunities for American mariners, shipbuilding and the overall economy. He will also oversee the office of Passenger Vessel Services, which was established to support the passenger and cruise industry and its multi-billion dollar contribution to the economy as well as the congestion relief that passenger ferries offer nationwide. Prior to this assignment, Jim was the Deputy Division Chief in the U.S. Coast Guard’s Domestic Ports Division.

NSRP Elects New Panel Chair

The National Shipbuilding Research Program's Business Process Technologies Panel elected Ken Clarke as its new Panel Chair, and Jim Rohr as returning Vice Chair, during its December 12, 2003 Panel Meeting held at the "Automation in Shipbuilding Conference" in New Orleans, Louisiana. Clarke is an employee of Northrop Grumman Newport News. He has held management positions at Newport News in Aircraft Carrier New Construction and Overhaul Nuclear Engineering, Waterfront Trades Administration, Submarine Overhaul Program Office, International Commercial Ship Marketing, Naval Business Technology Marketing, and Human Resources. His current position is Manager, Production Engineering and Program Manager for Industrial Products Sales at NGNN.

Hurlock Resigns from Stolt-Nielsen Board

Stolt-Nielsen S.A. (Oslo Børs: SNI) announced that James B. Hurlock has resigned as a Director of the Company, effective immediately. Terry Weston has been confirmed as Chief Executive of Maritime and Engineering College North West (MECNW) following the retirement of his predecessor, Jim Teasdale, at the end of September. Jim Teasdale was a founder director and chief executive of Birkenhead-based Maritime and Engineering College North West (MECNW), a charitable foundation set up under his leadership in 1998 to provide apprenticeship training in vocational skills with a particular focus on engineering and marine engineering.

W&O Supply Appoints Two

W&O Supply, a supplier of marine valves, pipes, fittings and valve automation services, hired Jim Baur as general manager of the Automation Division. Working in conjunction with W&O Supply’s subsidiary, Valve Automation & Control, Jim will be responsible for launching and overseeing the company’s automation expertise to a nationwide audience. “Jim is a valuable addition to our team, especially in our initiative of expanding and promoting our valve automation capabilities across the country,” said David Turner, W&O Supply’s President and CEO. Offshore Marine Service Association (OMSA) announced a rotation of the association’s officers

Todd Hornbeck will succeed Otto Candies III as chairman of the Board, Robert Clemons will advance to Vice Chairman and Ben Bordelon will serve as Secretary and Treasurer. Jim Adams, who had been working in his interim position since August, was named as the association’s President and CEO. “I want to thank Otto Candies, III for his remarkable leadership through a very challenging time for OMSA. He served the membership well and we will continue to rely on his counsel as he retains his seat as a member of the board of directors,” said Todd Hornbeck.
