Fred Harris to Retire
General Dynamics (NYSE: GD) said that in the wake the retirement of Frederick J. Harris effective January 1, 2017, Dirk A. Lesko will be a vice president of the corporation and appointed as president of General Dynamics Bath Iron Works, and Kevin M. Graney will be a vice president of the corporation and appointed as president of General Dynamics NASSCO. “Dirk and Kevin are seasoned leaders with proven track records of managing complex shipbuilding projects and driving continuous improvement at every level of their business,” said John P. General Dynamics Make Leadership Changes
Jeffrey S. Geiger, president of General Dynamics Bath Iron Works, will become president of General Dynamics Electric Boat effective November 4, 2013, following the retirement of Kevin J. Poitras. Geiger will continue reporting to John P. Casey, executive vice president of Marine Systems for General Dynamics. In addition, Frederick J. Harris will remain as president of General Dynamics NASSCO and will also serve as president of Bath Iron Works. Submarine Missouri Completes First Voyage
The nation's newest and most advanced nuclear-powered attack submarine, (SSN-780), returned to the Electric Boat shipyard following the successful completion of its first voyage in open seas. is the seventh ship of the Virginia Class. Electric Boat is a wholly owned subsidiary of General Dynamics (NYSE: GD). 's alpha sea trials included a range of submarine and propulsion-plant operations, submerging for the first time, and high-speed runs on and below the surface to demonstrate that the ship's propulsion plant is fully mission-capable. The sea trials were directed by U.S. Navy Adm. Kirkland Donald, director – Naval Nuclear Propulsion. Also participating in the sea trials were Rear Adm. Navy Awards $14b for 8 Virginia-Class Subs
On Dec. 22, the U.S. Navy reaffirmed the strategic need for a robust, adaptable submarine force by awarding General Dynamics Electric Boat a contract valued at $14b for the construction of eight Virginia-class submarines. Electric Boat is a wholly owned subsidiary of General Dynamics (NYSE:GD). The multi-year contract allows Electric Boat and its teammate, Northrop Grumman Shipbuilding, to proceed with the construction of one ship per year in 2009 and 2010, and two ships per year from 2011 through 2013.
