The Commissioning of Paul Clark
It was 1942 during the allied assault on French Morocco. Fireman 1st Class Paul Leaman Clark was a landing boat engineer attached to the USS Joseph T. Dickman supervising the unloading of soldiers and supplies from the transports on the beach. Early into the assault, Clark was unloading a transport when his boat was battered with machinegun fire; the bowman was mortally wounded and the coxswain was severely injured. Despite the perilous conditions, Clark took control of the boat and withdrew from the beach with the injured crewmember aboard.
Bollinger Delivers Coast Guard FR-Cutter
Bollinger Shipyards, Inc. deliver 'Paul Clark', the sixth Fast Response Cutter (FRC) for the United States Coast Guard. The announcement was made by Bollinger executive vice president of new construction, Chris Bollinger: “We are very pleased to announce another successful on-time and on-budget FRC delivery to the Coast Guard. The Paul Clark was delivered to the 7th Coast Guard District in Key West, FL, and will be stationed at USCG Sector Miami. The 154 foot patrol craft Paul Clark is the sixth vessel in the Coast Guard's Sentinel-class FRC program.
This Day in Coast Guard History – June 3
1882-At 8 in the morning the three-masted schooner, J.P. Decamdres, bound for Milwaukee with a cargo of cord-wood and railroad ties, stranded about one mile north of the life-saving station at the entrance to Milwaukee Harbor (No. 15, Eleventh District) and became a total wreck. Her crew of six men and a passenger were rescued by the lifesaving crew. 1941-President Franklin D. Roosevelt signed an executive order making 2,100 US Coast Guard officers and men available to man four transports, USS Leonard Wood, Hunter Liggett, Joseph T.
