Carnival Opens High-tech Training Center

Carnival Corporation & plc today announced the official opening of its Arison Maritime Center, a world-class facility dedicated to providing safety training for its bridge and engineering officers responsible for the navigation and operation of the company’s fleet of cruise ships. Located in Almere, Netherlands just outside Amsterdam, the new 75-million-euro facility features some of industry’s most advanced simulators and training equipment to provide annual training to more than 6,500 bridge and engineering officers from Carnival’s 10 global cruise line brands.

SCI Awarded IMS Cetification

The Shipping Corporation of India Ltd was awarded the Integrated Management System (IMS) Certification at its Head Office at Mumbai on 23rd December, 2015 by Arun Sharma, Chairman and Managing Director of Indian Register of Shipping (IRS) and congratulated SCI on “another feather in its existing hat of firsts”. The certificate was received by Arun Kumar Gupta, Chairman and Managing Director of SCI. SCI became the first Indian Shipping Company to be awarded the IMS (QMS 9001, EMS 14001, and BS OHSAS 18001) certification across its establishment and fleet. The scope of IMS certification includes Owning, Managing and Chartering of ships for transportation of goods and passengers, Offshore and marine advisory services, Maritime training services and Port/Terminal Operations Management.

Servicing over 11,000 vessels, Videotel is a market leader in the provision of maritime training services, offering video, animation, e-Learning computer-based training (CBT), and interactive distance learning courses. “The acquisition of Videotel is an important addition to our portfolio of services targeting the needs of commercial seafarers and supports our strategic vision of extending our maritime broadband service to include delivering premium content to vessels,” said Martin Kits van Heyningen, KVH’s chief executive officer.

New Training Program on Vessel General Permit

A new training program is available for vessels mandated to comply with a set of EPA discharge requirements: the Vessel General Permit or VGP. It was recently announced that the Coast Guard will monitor compliance with the EPA regulations during regular vessel boarding and inspections. Maritime Training Services and QSE Solutions released a new DVD Training Program called “Vessel General Permit: Protecting the Marine Environment.”  The training program includes a video, training guide, all-in-one sample inspection form, review exercise and certificate of completion for both shore-side and vessel personnel. The 15 minute video provides a general overview and understanding of the VGP necessary for shore-side managers and vessel officers.

CMTI Approved As GSA Supplier to U.S. Government Agencies

CMTI, a provider of maritime training services in the U.S., has been awarded a five-year contract by the General Services Administration (GSA) to provide training and training related services, including curriculum development, under preferred customer discount pricing to all U.S. Government customers. This GSA Schedule contract, under contract number GS-02F-0173N, covers Special Item Numbers (SIN) 27-400 and 27-500 (Instructor Led Training, Course Development and Test Administration) within FSC Group 69 Part 30 – Training Aids & Devices. When purchases are made under this contract, using the GSAAdvantage! web site, Government customers will receive a substantial discount from CMTI’s commercial prices on all training and services as listed.
