Experts Ready to Reassemble Medieval Vessel Found in the Mud
When construction work began on a new arts center in Newport, south Wales, in 2002, the builders on site could scarcely have imagined what they would dig up. While excavating the foundations on the banks of the River Usk, a section of a medieval wooden ship was uncovered which had been perfectly preserved by the river’s waterlogged silt. Archaeologists were called in and it soon became clear the vessel was extraordinary.This was not a coastal sailing boat that would have plied the Severn estuary up to the 19th century.
Arctic Wreck Found after 169 Years
After more than 169 years, Canadian researchers discovered one of the two ships from the doomed Arctic expedition of Sir John Franklin, cracking one of the largest mysteries in sea exploration. The wreck was found some 11 meters below the surface using a ROV recently acquired by Parks Canada. It is unknown whether the ship is HMS Erebus or HMS Terror, though researches expect to determine its identity within several days. Seismic Survey Offshore NW Australia by TGS
Geoscience providers TGS announce a fourth 3D multi-client seismic survey, 'Honeycombs'. Honeycombs, covers 2,500 km2 over the Exmouth Plateau in the Northern Carnarvon Basin, offshore NW Australia. This survey is located over acreage with 50% relinquishment due in February 2013 and is adjacent to the previously announced NW Australia survey (Mary Rose) in October 2011. Upon completion of this survey, the TGS portfolio of 3D multi-client coverage in this highly prospective area offshore Australia will exceed 17,000 km2. 

 The seismic data will be acquired by the M/V Ramform Sterling and is expected to begin in September 2012 with completion in Q4 2012.
