The Coast Guard Foundation, a non-profit organization committed to the education and welfare of all Coast Guard members and their families, announced today that in 2016 it has awarded a record 128 new scholarships. Combined with multi-year scholarship recipients and three Fallen Heroes Scholars, the Foundation is currently supporting 163 students totaling $576,500 in support this year. In just over 26 years, the Foundation's scholarship program has paid out more than $3.8 million to more than 630 college-aged young adults to help the families of Coast Guard members achieve their goals of higher education. Fathom, the pioneer in social impact travel and Carnival Corporation’s 10th and newest brand, has named industry veteran, Bill Diebenow as the company’s director of sales, affinity and special accounts. In this role, Diebenow will lead a robust sales team and focus on new prospects as well as capitalizing on emerging segments for Fathom, including the retail market for specialized groups, alumni, and faith-based markets. Diebenow reports to David Drier, vice president, sales for Fathom. “Bill’s 20-year proven track record of accomplished leadership and business development makes him an invaluable addition to the Fathom team,” said Tara Russell, president of Fathom and global impact lead for Carnival Corporation. All American Marine, Inc. (AAM) has entered into a contract with the University of New Hampshire (UNH) for the design and construction of a new aluminum catamaran research vessel. AAM will build the 48’ x 17’ catamaran custom devised by Teknicraft Design, Ltd. of Auckland, New Zealand. The new vessel, funded through a grant from the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) will serve the Joint Hydrographic Center (JHC) at UNH. It will join UNH’s existing fleet and will complement capabilities by offering a highly complex multi-mission platform.

All U.S. Coasts enjoying upswing in business. For many U.S. builders, last year closed on a happier note than 2010 – when the BP spill, offshore drilling ban and weak U.S. and global economies hurt business. In 2011, new orders for vessels for the oil industry and for the U.S. and foreign governments promised to keep a number of builders busy in 2012. A need to comply with new federal regulations created work, and repair activity grew. The upshot is that coastal economies are getting a needed boost. But some companies find themselves with more customers than they can immediately handle.

Mystic Seaport has named Sarah Cahill its new director of museum education and outreach. She will begin June 7. Cahill will lead the Museum’s education department in the expansion of its public history educational programs. She will guide Mystic Seaport in its efforts to increase educational programs both on grounds and in schools, while placing significant focus on the strengthening of partnerships between the Museum and schools. Cahill most recently served as executive director of the Rhode Island Afterschool Plus Alliance in Providence…

The Port of Tacoma Commission today selected Timothy J. Farrell as the Port's Executive Director, effective January 1, 2005. Farrell has served as the Port of Tacoma's Deputy Executive Director since 2000 and as Acting Executive Director since July 1, 2004. Andrea Riniker, who has served as the Port's Executive Director since 1997, will continue on in a transitional role until January 1, 2005. She will work with the Port Commission, and travel with Farrell and Port of Tacoma Commission President Clare Petrich to meet with customers to assure a smooth changeover to Farrell's leadership. Before joining the Port of Tacoma four years ago, Farrell, 38, was Deputy Port Director of Business & Administration for Massport, Boston.
