MERPAC Seeks Applicants
The Coast Guard is actively seeking applications for appointment to the Merchant Marine Personnel Advisory Committee (MERPAC). MERPAC gives advice and makes recommendations to the Coast Guard on matters pertinent to all personnel in the maritime industry, such as training, licensing, and certification and the on-going reorganization at the National Maritime Center. Hearing on National Strategy for Maritime Security
The Subcommittee on Coast Guard and Maritime Transportation of the House Committee on Transportation and Infrastructure conducted a field hearing on the National Strategy for Maritime Security. The purpose of the hearing, held in Camden, New Jersey, was to continue oversight of federal programs intended to enhance security in the maritime domain. RADM Craig Bone, USCG and Mr. Mark O. Hatfield, Jr., TSA, testified that maritime security encompasses threats from all criminal or hostile acts and involves collection of information relating to all aspects of maritime activities. Transocean Ltd. today announced that, as mutually agreed with the company, Esa Ikaheimonen is stepping down as Executive Vice President and Chief Financial Officer effective immediately. Mark Guthrie Joins KVH as VP

Austal Delivers Fast Twins for Hong Kong Fleet
Austal has delivered its latest high speed passenger catamarans to a market that did much to establish the Australian shipbuilder as a world leader in the design and construction of high speed ferries. Hong Kong based New World First Ferry Services (Macau) Limited accepted delivery of two 47.5 metre passenger catamarans at the beginning of September, taking the total number of Austal-built vessels in its fleet to seven.
