Hearing – Securing LNG Tankers to Protect the Homeland

The House Homeland Security Committee conducted a hearing entitled Securing LNG Tankers to Protect the Homeland. Chairman Bennie Thompson (D-MS) stated that he was concerned about the significant increase in LNG imports and the increased safety and security risks related thereto. Mr. Jim Wells, Government Accountability Office (GAO), testified that the public safety consequences of a liquefied natural gas spill need clarification. Rear Admiral Brian M. MERPAC Seeks Applicants

The Coast Guard is actively seeking applications for appointment to the Merchant Marine Personnel Advisory Committee (MERPAC). MERPAC gives advice and makes recommendations to the Coast Guard on matters pertinent to all personnel in the maritime industry, such as training, licensing, and certification and the on-going reorganization at the National Maritime Center. Travel costs for attending the committee meetings are covered by the Coast Guard. Applications are due by 4:00 p.m. EDT on July 15, 2009. Hearing on National Strategy for Maritime Security

The Subcommittee on Coast Guard and Maritime Transportation of the House Committee on Transportation and Infrastructure conducted a field hearing on the National Strategy for Maritime Security. The purpose of the hearing, held in Camden, New Jersey, was to continue oversight of federal programs intended to enhance security in the maritime domain. RADM Craig Bone, USCG and Mr. Mark O. Hatfield, Jr., TSA, testified that maritime security encompasses threats from all criminal or hostile acts and involves collection of information relating to all aspects of maritime activities. Transocean Ltd. today announced that, as mutually agreed with the company, Esa Ikaheimonen is stepping down as Executive Vice President and Chief Financial Officer effective immediately. Mr. Ikaheimonen has also resigned his company-appointed position as the Chairman of the Board of Directors of Transocean Partners LLC, a subsidiary of Transocean. Additionally, the company announced that Mr. Mark Mey has been appointed as Executive Vice President and Chief Financial Officer effective May 28, 2015.

Doen Pacific Enters into Joint License Agreement

Doen Pacific as one of only 5 marine waterjet manufacturers in the world matching engines to 4,000kW, and CSIC, one of the two largest shipbuilding conglomerates in China, together with its Member WMMP, have jointly signed a license agreement for the manufacture and sale of WMMP‐DOEN Waterjets in China. Mark Guthrie Joins KVH as VP

Maritime Industries Academy Foundation Receives Donation

Glen Paine, President, Maritime Industries Academy Foundation (MIAF) announced that the Steamship Trade Association of  Baltimore Charitable Legacy, Inc. donated $10,000 to the MIAF non-profit charity, which was setup to support Baltimore’s only maritime high school. This maritime charity was founded by Mr. Mark Montgomery, CEO, Ports America Chesapeake, and Mr. Michael Angelos, President, Steamship Trade Association of Baltimore. AW-Energy to Tie-up with LR to certify WaveRoller™ technology

Holden is New President, CEO of ACL

American Commercial Lines Inc. Designed and built specifically for harsh Norwegian weather conditions and to meet the service requirements of isolated communities, Image Marine’s first vessels for the European market present a new benchmark for the Australian shipbuilder. Built for leading ferry operator Ofotens og Vesteraalens Dampskibsselskab asa (OVDS) and named “Salten” and “Steigtind”, the passenger-cargo catamarans will operate out of the far northern port of Bodø. Capable of 35 knots and with capacity for 214 passengers and 30 Euro pallets (12 tonnes) of refrigerated cargo, the 41.3 metre vessels provide not only a passenger service, but also the only transportation link for travel and supplies between many small islands and the mainland.

Austal Delivers Fast Twins for Hong Kong Fleet

Austal has delivered its latest high speed passenger catamarans to a market that did much to establish the Australian shipbuilder as a world leader in the design and construction of high speed ferries. Hong Kong based New World First Ferry Services (Macau) Limited accepted delivery of two 47.5 metre passenger catamarans at the beginning of September, taking the total number of Austal-built vessels in its fleet to seven. Officiating at the colourful Launching Ceremony at Hong Kong’s Dragon Cruise Pier and at Macau Ferry Terminal were Mr R C L Footman, JP, Commissioner for Transport of Hong Kong SAR Government and Mr Ao Man Long, Secretary for Transport and Public Works of Macau SAR Government.

Reef Subsea Announce Management Changes

Mark Preece is to step down as CEO of the Reef Subsea Group by mutual agreement. The board has acknowledged and thanked Mr. Preece for his efforts in developing and positioning Reef Subsea as a strong subsea contractor in the oil and gas and offshore wind farm sectors. Duncan MacPherson, the current managing director of Reef Subsea Norway, will assume the interim role of CEO for the Reef Subsea Group.
