Donald Bollinger, chairman and CEO, Bollinger Shipyards

Earlier this year, two major shipbuilding associations merged, the National Shipyard Association (NSA), of which Donald "Boysie" Bollinger was chairman; and the Shipbuilders Council of America (SCA), chaired by Daniel L. Gulling, president of Marinette Marine Corp. NSA had 42 shipyard members and 20 allied/affiliate members before the merger. SCA had nine shipyard and eight allied/affiliate members before the merger. One shipyard held a dual membership. The new association, which retains the name of Shipbuilders Council of America, now 49 shipyard companies and 30 allied/affiliate members, which own and operate more than 100 shipyards in 20 states. NSA And SCA Merge

Donald T. 'Boysie' Bollinger, chairman and CEO of Bollinger Shipyards, Inc., and chairman of the National Shipyard Association (NSA) and Daniel L. Gulling, president of Marinette Marine Corp., and chairman of the Shipbuilders Council of America have announced the merger of the two associations. The new association, also called Shipbuilders Council of America, represents more than 50 shipyard companies that own and operate more than 100 shipyards in 20 states. The newly combined SCA companies employ more than 30,000 shipyard workers building, repairing and servicing all types of commercial and government vessels. According to Bollinger, "The consolidation of NSA and SCA brings together the most successful and innovative shipyards in the U.S. under one national trade association.

Walpert Appointed SCA Director Emeritus

The Shipbuilders Council of America (SCA) selected Harvey B. Walpert to be the first ever Director Emeritus of SCA in recognition of his outstanding contributions to the maritime industry. Bruce Croushore, Vice President of Bender Shipbuilding & Repair Co., Inc. of Mobile, AL and past Chairman of SCA, presented the award during the SCA Fall Meeting in Amelia Island, FL on September 29, 2005. Mr. Walpert’s shipbuilding experience includes 22 years at Electric Boat Corporation, a division of General Dynamics, and 22 years at Halter Marine Group (currently VT Halter Marine, Inc.). He has served in his current position as a Senior Defense Advisor for Bender for more than 5 years.
