News: Newport Shipyard Announces Promotions

Bruce Brown, Chief Operating Officer, announced a number of new staff appointments at the Newport Shipyard. The shipyard is expanding its management team so that the yard can better handle an influx of new work. Mr. Mark Mutty, with over 28 years in the boating industry and well versed in both yacht and commercial applications of yacht repair and maintenance, is the Yard Manager for the shipyard. He was previously Facilities/Yard Manager for Hinckley Yacht Services (formerly Little Harbor Marine) and for Newport Offshore Ltd. A lifelong resident of Portsmouth, R.I. Mark has been involved in three America's Cup Campaigns. Ann Souder, the Director of Marketing, has been a consultant on marketing and promotions to the super yacht industry.

He was previously Facilities/Yard Manager for Hinckley Yacht Services (formerly Little Harbor Marine) and for Newport Offshore Ltd. Ann Souder, the Director of Marketing, has been a consultant on marketing and promotions to the super yacht industry. She has over 25 years experience in marketing both in the United States and Europe. In addition to her marketing responsibilities, she will coordinate the various special events that take place at the Shipyard. Captain Tom Donovan is the Commercial Projects Manager.

Northrop Grumman Announces Leadership Appointments

Mitsubishi Heavy Industries (MHI) and Vestas Wind Systems (Vestas) have appointed Philippe Kavafyan to Chief Executive Officer (CEO) and Lars Bondo Krogsgaard to Co-Chief Executive Officer (Co-CEO) of MHI Vestas Offshore Wind. SBM Offshore Hands over FPSO Turritella to Shell

SBM Offshore said it has completed the transaction related to the sale of floating production storage and offloading (FPSO) vessel Turritella to Shell E and P Offshore Services B.V.   Shell exercised an option to purchase the FPSO from SBM Offshore in summer 2017.    The Turritella FPSO is contracted for the Stones deepwater development in the Gulf of Mexico, which began production in 2016.   The vessel has a daily production capacity of approximately 60,000 barrels of oil and 15 million cubic feet of natural gas.

Vroon Offshore Vessel Undergoes Modification Work

Damen Shiprepair Oranjewerf has completed final outfitting and modifications on a second subsea-support walk-to-work (W2W) vessel for Vroon Offshore Services (VOS). VOS Stone was built at Fujian Southeast Shipbuilding in China before coming to the Netherlands for completion. This follows a similar project successfully completed in July this year at Oranjewerf, involving sister ship VOS Start. NSRP Elects New Panel Chair

The National Shipbuilding Research Program's Business Process Technologies Panel elected Ken Clarke as its new Panel Chair, and Jim Rohr as returning Vice Chair, during its December 12, 2003 Panel Meeting held at the "Automation in Shipbuilding Conference" in New Orleans, Louisiana. Clarke is an employee of Northrop Grumman Newport News. He has held management positions at Newport News in Aircraft Carrier New Construction and Overhaul Nuclear Engineering, Waterfront Trades Administration, Submarine Overhaul Program Office, International Commercial Ship Marketing, Naval Business Technology Marketing, and Human Resources. His current position is Manager, Production Engineering and Program Manager for Industrial Products Sales at NGNN.

VOS Stone Equipped with Ampelmann W2W Gangway

Vroon Offshore Services and Ampelmann have joined forces to deploy a Walk to Work (W2W) solution for the Arkona offshore wind farm, located in the German Baltic Sea. Vroon’s VOS Stone vessel, the newest addition to its offshore-support fleet, will be mobilized with an Ampelmann A400 gangway system. Northrop Grumman Partners to Build Offshore Wind Turbines

According to an October 6 report from the Daily Press, Northrop Grumman Corp.'s Newport News shipyard and Spanish energy firm Gamesa said they have formed a new partnership to produce offshore wind turbines. Northrop and Gamesa said they are assembling a team of up to 40 engineers in Hampton Roads over the next month to begin preliminary work on the project. G E Shipping Sells Supramax

India’s largest private sector shipping company  Great Eastern Shipping Company Limited (G E Shipping) has contracted to sell its 2003 built Supramax Dry Bulk Carrier Jag Rahul of about 52,364 dwt. G E Shipping said that the vessel will be delivered to the new buyer in Q4 FY 2017-18. The Company’s current fleet (including Jag Rahul) stands at 48 vessels, comprising 32 tankers (12crude carriers, 17 product tankers, 3 LPG carrier) and 16 dry bulk carriers (1 Capesize, 8 Kamsarmax, 7 Supramax) with an average age of 10.24 years aggregating 3.93 mn dwt.

Bibby Offshore Recapitalization Completed

Subsea services provider Bibby Offshore Holdings Limited said it has completed the recapitalization of its balance sheet announced on December 5, 2017. The agreement to recapitalize the balance sheet was approved January 10 by 98.7 percent of noteholders of the £175 million (approximately $243 million) 7.5 percent senior secured notes, and makes noteholders the new owners of the group. “The completion of the recapitalization will be transformational for Bibby Offshore and is a major milestone for our business,” said Howard Woodcock, chief executive of Bibby Offshore.

Newport Int'l Boat Show Plans for Press Conference

Newport Exhibition Group, owners and producers of the Newport International Boat Show, announced today its plans for the 2014 State of the Industry Press Conference. This year, the event will take place on Friday, September 12th at 8:15 a.m. in Sunset Lounge at the end of Commercial Wharf. The new format will feature a lively question and answer session among a panel of industry experts. Open to members of the press and individuals attending the Newport International Boat Show, attendees will be welcomed to the city by The Honorable Henry F. Winthrop, mayor of Newport.

Second Marine Travelift for Newport Shipyard

Marine Travelift Inc. announced that Newport Shipyard of Newport, R.I., has acquired one of its 100 BFMII mobile boat hoists. The new machine joins another Marine Travelift hoist already on site. Located downtown on Newport Harbor, Newport Shipyard is Newport's oldest and only working boat and shipyard facility. Not only is the yard a major East Coast yachting hub, it also is host to the Newport-Bermuda Race. Eli Dana, Newport Shipyard’s manager and dockmaster, said the yard purchased the new 100 BFMII to replace an existing 70-ton machine.

Newport News Shipbuilding Notified of Department of Defense Recommendation

News Shipbuilding and General Dynamics. proposed merger between NNS and GD. two companies can be negotiated. Any agreement reached between Newport News Shipbuilding and Northrop Grumman would require the approval of the Newport News Shipbuilding Board of Directors.

Northrop Grumman, Newport News Shipbuilding Announce Definitive Merger Agreement

Northrop Grumman Corporation and Newport News Shipbuilding Inc. announced today that they have signed a definitive agreement under which Northrop Grumman will acquire Newport News Shipbuilding. The boards of directors of both companies approved the terms of the transaction in which Northrop Grumman will acquire all the outstanding shares of Newport News. $67.50, subject to certain limitations and proration procedures. Northrop Grumman expects to promptly amend its existing offer documents in order to reflect the merger agreement. Shipbuilding shareholders will have the same right to elect to receive cash or shares of Northrop Grumman stock as described above. Kent Kresa, Northrop Grumman chairman and chief executive officer.

Jumbo Orders LNG-powered Heavy Lift Ship

Dutch transportation and installation contractor Jumbo said it has signed a Letter of Intent (LOI) with shipbuilder China Merchants Industry Holdings (CMIH) for the construction of a new heavy lift crane vessel (HLCV) scheduled for delivery in the first quarter of 2020. The DP2 vessel will feature dual fuel engines capable of operating on liquefied natural gas (LNG), and will be built to serve the offshore wind and the offshore oil and gas industries. “Despite the current offshore climate, we are committing to this industry long term,” said Jumbo managing director, Michael Kahn.

Northrop Grumman Moves Ahead With Hostile Takeover

Northrop Grumman Corp. started its exchange offer for shares of Newport News Shipbuilding Inc., moving forward with its hostile bid despite Newport's planned merger with rival General Dynamics Corp. Northrop said it would immediately enter negotiations with Newport News if the maker of nuclear-powered aircraft carriers and submarines allowed Northrop to conduct a due diligence review. A spokeswoman for Newport News said the board would review the offer and make its recommendation. A General Dynamics spokeswoman said the company had not yet reviewed Northrop's bid. Northrop's offer gives Newport shareholders the option to receive $67.50 per share in cash or shares of Northrop common stock.

Rainmaker Signs Exclusive Representation with Meridian

Rainmaker LLC, headquartered in Mobile, Alabama with a newly opened office in Houston, Texas, signed an exclusive representation contract with subsea inspection and survey specialist Meridian Ocean Services, with offices in Newport, Rhode Island and Nassau, Bahamas. The agreement covers the maritime industry, harbors, bridge inspection, marine terminals, offshore pipeline and offshore-related industries in the U.S. and other international territories. Rainmaker is also collaborating with Enman and Associates to expand Meridian’s presence on the U.S. East and Gulf Coasts. Meridian’s portfolio of subsea inspection and survey equipment includes Remotely Operated Vehicles (ROVs) and Autonomous Underwater Vehicles (AUVs) as well as advanced subsea imaging technology.

Northrop Grumman Extends $2.1 Billion Tender For Newport News

U.S. Defense contractor Northrop Grumman Corp. said on Thursday that it had extended again its $2.1 billion tender offer for the outstanding shares of warship builder Newport News Shipbuilding Inc. to Aug. 30. About 1,620,832 shares of Newport News Shipbuilding common stock had been tendered to Northrop Grumman as of 5:00 p.m. on Aug. 16, including about 181,611 shares tendered pursuant to notices of guaranteed delivery, Northrop said. On Aug. 2, the company extended the deadline for its offer for Newport News to Aug. 16. In May, Northrop launched a hostile takeover bid for Newport, offering to pay $67.50 in cash and stock for each of Newport's outstanding shares.

Gamesa to Site Prototype Offshore Wind Turbine in Spain, Not U.S.

This offshore prototype will be the first to be installed in Spain,  Gamesa having chosen Arinaga Quay in Gran Canary Island: a decision driven by technical and wind resource considerations, offshore market trends and investment return criteria. The installation of  Gamesa's first offshore prototype in Europe freezes the offshore prototype project in Virginia (United States), in Cape Charles. The milestone to design a competitive offshore turbine in the R&D centre in Virginia has been fulfilled, but the prospects for the U.S. offshore market and its regulatory conditions in this segment so far do not justify the next step, the installation of a prototype in the U.S.
