Vroon W2W Vessel Upgraded ahead of First Charter
VOS Start, Vroon BVâs first DP2, subsea-support, walk-to-work (W2W) vessel has departed Damen Shiprepair Oranjewerf following the installation of a first of its kind motion-compensated gangway system by Barge Master and Bosch Rexroth, the extended installation of a Kongsberg reference system (including a âwindfarm moduleâ), and an active heave-compensated crane from SMST. RoRo Ferry Delivered to Gambia
Damen has delivered a road ferry to a client in the Gambia more than a month ahead of schedule. Cruise & Maritime Voyages selects Damen
Damen Shiprepair Amsterdam (DSAm), part of Damen Shiprepair & Conversion (DSC), has completed maintenance works on cruise vessels Marco Polo and Magellan. Both vessels are operated by British based Cruise & Maritime Voyages (CMV), part of the Global Maritime Group. The works represent the on-going business relationship between Damen and CMV. Marco Polo is certainly no stranger to Damen Shiprepair & Conversion, having benefitted from maintenance stopovers at Damen Shiprepair Vlissingen in the past. During the initial docking process at the yard, Marco Polo was inspected by DSAm Project Manager Wouter van den Bossche. âAfter examining the vessel, we scheduled various equipment overhauls and repainting,â he says.
RoPax hull launched at Niron Staal - Damen
Marking the completion of the first new build contract between Niron Staal Amsterdam and Damen Shipyards Group, the hull of a RoPax 5212 passenger ferry hull has been launched from Niron Staalâs facilities in Amsterdam. Preparations for the launch started early on Tuesday morning when the finished hull was moved out of Niron Staalâs production hall on a multi-wheeled transporter. After travelling the short distance to the quayside, the ferry was transferred to a floating pontoon. Then, representing the vesselâs ceremonial launch, the pontoon was ballasted, thus leaving the ferry free to take to the water for the very first time. On 1 February, the RoPax hull will be towed to Damen Shipyards Hardinxveld where it will be outfitted ready for final delivery.
RoPax Ferry Takes Shape at Niron Staal

Jumboâs Heavy Lift Crane Vessel Repaired
A three-week repair project on the Jumbo Javelin, a DP2 Heavy Lift Crane Vessel owned and operated by Jumbo, has been completed Damen Shiprepair Van Brink Rotterdam in the Netherlands. The major aspect of the repair was the replacement of the frames of 15 box coolers. To minimize the time spent in dock, 12 of these were prefabricated prior to the Jumbo Javelin arriving at Van Brink, and the remaining three were built during the docking period. The majority of the steel work was performed by Damen Group company and steel specialist Niron Staal Amsterdam.
Sea Installer Receives Crane Upgrade

The principle scope of work involved the extension of the main crane boom, giving the A2SEA-owned offshore wind farm installation vessel increased reaching capacity: a pertinent point considering the trend of the increasing size of offshore wind turbine components. Crane Upgrade for Jack-up Vessel Sea Installer
Damen Shiprepair Amsterdam (DSAm), part of Damen Shiprepair & Conversion, is currently undertaking a modification and maintenance project on the jack-up vessel Sea Installer. In what is a multidisciplinary project, the yardâs primary focus will be to upgrade the vesselâs main crane. With its increased lifting capacity, the 132-meter A2SEA-owned vessel, which is used chiefly for offshore wind farm installation purposes, will be able to take on a broader scope of work as offshore wind activities involve heavier and larger components.
Floating Tidal Energy Platform Up and Running
The first months of operating the BlueTEC tidal energy platform have been a success, according to the BlueTEC Texel Tidal partnership: with every tidal flow, the platform supplies electricity into the Dutch national grid. The success has led project partners to work toward developing plans for the installation of a second, larger turbine. âGetting the platform from the drawing board to a grid-connected operating reality in just six months is amazing,â said Allard van Hoeken, Head of New Energy at Bluewater Energy Services and recent recipient of the first Prince Friso Engineers Award.
PSVs Undergo Rapid Shipdock Antiroll Retrofit
For its recent retrofit of two antiroll tanks onto GulfMark UKâs Highland Defender and Highland Guardian, Shipdock Amsterdam said it is most proud of its rapid response and production speed, along with the ratio of 150 metric tons of steel deployed and processed relative to the contractâs limited total lead-time. In consideration of the fact that all work, from scratch, was carried out within one single location as a complete turnkey package by two Damen Shipyards subsidiaries, is a close second on the shipyardâs satisfaction scale.
Refurbished Seajacks Vessels Leave Shipdock Amsterdam
Seajacks Leviathan and Seajacks Kraken are prepared for their coming assignments, following a series of repair and renewal jobs by Shipdock Amsterdam. The shipyard, part of Damen Shiprepair & Conversion, had been commissioned for the two jack-ups by Seajacks UK Ltd. The Great Yarmouth (United Kingdom) based company has assigned the shipyard various and different major and minor adjustments on the two jack-up sister vessels in between North Sea offshore windfarm and oil & gas installation contracts.
Seismic Vessel to be Refit at Shipdock Amsterdam
Ship repair and conversion yard Shipdock Amsterdam, part of Damen Shipyards Group, received a contract for the propulsion upgrade of the 3D Seismic Vessel Polarcus Naila. The ultra-modern vessel will arrive at Shipdockin February 2014 for its six-week conversion. In addition to the propulsion upgrade the vessel will also undergo modification works in order to be classified as a Special Purpose Ship. Furthermore, the scope of work includes Ballast Water Treatment installation, installation of a new workboat and davits, relocation of the MOB and the five-year special survey.
Shipdock Lands Jack-Up Upgrade Contracts
Secret weaponâ: dedicated on site steel construction and machining facility. The skyline of the Amsterdam harbours has been visibly altered in the neighbourhood of Shipdock, Amsterdamâs premier ship repair and conversion yard. The company has recently secured four major contracts for the upgrading and maintenance of the jack-up vessels GMS Endurance, GMS Endeavour, Seajack Leviathan and Seajack Zaratan. These vessels, equipped with elevating legs of over 100m in height, will be keeping the shipyard busy throughout the summer months.
