COP28: US Cracking Down on Methane from Oil and Gas

The Biden administration on Saturday unveiled final rules aimed at cracking down on US oil and gas industry releases of methane, part of a global plan to rein in emissions that contribute to climate change.The rules, two years in the making, were announced by US officials at the United Nations COP28 climate change conference in Dubai. The US and other nations attending the summit are expected to detail how they will achieve a 150-country pledge made two years ago to slash methane emissions by 30% from 2020 levels by 2030.Methane tends to leak into the atmosphere undetected from drill sites…

Amogy to Open $40 Million Houston Manufacturing Facility

Amogy, developer of emission-free ammonia power solutions, on Tuesday announced it will open a new manufacturing facility in the energy and maritime hub city Houston.The Brooklyn-headquartered company said it will invest more than $40 million to renovate a 53,000-square-foot manufacturing facility that was formerly used to produce oil and gas equipment. The site is located within four acres of space that Amogy leases.Set to be operational in early 2024, the facility will be used for the assembly manufacturing of Amogy’s “powerpack” clean energy solution…

NOV Wins Offshore Wind Vessel Deal in China

Chinese shipbuilder China Merchants Heavy Industry (CMHI) has awarded NOV a contract to design and supply equipment for GustoMSC NG-14000XL-G wind turbine installation jack-up vessel to be built for OHT, a Norwegian heavy transport and installation contractor."In close collaboration with VIND Offshore Installation, a wholly-owned subsidiary of OHT, the design is specifically tailored to create a next-generation offshore wind installation unit with a significantly reduced carbon footprint," the company, which last year changed its name from National Oilwell Varco to NOV, said.

Udenna Backs-out from EMAS Rescue

Philippine's Udenna Corporation has broken off negotiations over a potential investment of $73 million in struggling Singapore-based offshore vessel company Emas Offshore.The ailing Singaporean contractor Emas Offshore announced in a regulatory filing that Udenna had informed the company that it would no longer be injecting $73.29 million into the offshore services provider. No reasons were given in the announcement for Udenna's decision.Dennis Uy-led Udenna is the parent company of Pheonix Petroleum and Chelsea Logistics Holdings.Udenna and Emas inked a non-binding term sheet last October, that would have seen the former pumping the money into Emas Offshore as part of the financial restructuring of the group.

Baker Technology Buys Stake in CH Offshore

Oil and gas equipment supplier Baker Technology on Thursday made a mandatory unconditional cash offer for all the shares in CH Offshore, a vessel chartering firm."BT Investment (BTI), a direct wholly-owned subsidiary Baker Technology, has announced that it has entered into (a) a sale and purchase agreement with Energian, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Falcon Energy Group, a company listed on the Singapore Exchange Securities Trading to acquire 217,800,000 issued and paid-up ordinary shares in the capital of CH Offshore, representing approximately 30.90% of the total Shares for a purchase consideration of S$0.115 per share," said a stock exchange announcement from the company.It has also entered into a sale and purchase agreement with SZ Offshore Investment to acquire 153…

China Equipments to Yamal LNG

The first shipment of a ‘core kit’ for Russia’s Yamal LNG project has set sail for northern Russia from the Chinese port of Qingdao. China's first batch of two air cooled condensing modules of LNG project are the biggest and heaviest kits being used for the project. They are set to arrive at the construction site in late June, says China Central Television. Yamal is a liquefied natural gas project located deep in the Russian Arctic. It is expected to start operating next year. 85 percent of the liquefied natural gas will be transported to the Asia Pacific market. It is China's first export of LNG core modules, indicating that China has entered into the international high-end oil and gas equipment market.

‘Landmark Year’ for RS in 2014

For Russian Maritime Register of Shipping (RS), 2014 marked the 101st year of its activities. The classification society said 2014 also marked a landmark year, as the construction of the world's first Arctic LNG carrier began to RS class. The new 300-meter-long ship carrying liquefied natural gas in membrane tanks will be able to operate in ice of about two meters thick. There are more than 150 vessels that are ordered or already under construction to the RS class with the total gross tonnage of about 2 million, RS noted, of which 11 are gas carriers, 21 icebreakers and specialized support vessels,  27 tankers, 30 tugs and seven fixed offshore ice-resistant platforms.

Market Improving for German Equipment Suppliers

The German Engineering Federation (VDMA) reported a good order situation for German marine and offshore oil and gas equipment suppliers, but the upsurge in incoming orders is not making the sector euphoric. “The boom in world ship newbuilding orders in 2013 gave us strong order growth, particularly from China and Korea. Here our ongoing export commitment in the global market is paying off: Germany remains the leading country for marine equipment suppliers worldwide. At the same time, we registered above average growth in incoming orders in the offshore oil and gas area,” stated Dr. Alexander Nürnberg, Chairman of VDMA Marine and Offshore Equipment Industries, at the association’s press conference held in Hamburg on Wednesday.

RS Bolsters Education, Science and Production Ties

Russian Maritime Register of Shipping (RS) said it is actively strengthening partnership in key areas of enhancing maritime transport safety. In 2014, meetings of four sections of the RS Scientific and Technical Council (STC) were held. Scientific and educational centers, shipbuilding and shiprepair yards, shipping companies and other organizations of the maritime industry participated in the RS Scientific and Technical Council sections: St. Petersburg State Polytechnical University, Admiral Makarov State University of Maritime and Inland Shipping, St. Petersburg State Marine Technical University (SMTU), Krylov State Scientific Center, OAO Rosmorport, OAO Severnaya Verf, OAO Admiralteiskie Verfi, Nevsky Shipyard, Shipbuilding & Shiprepair Technology Center.

FMC Win BP Subsea Equipment Contract

FMC Technologies to manufacture and supply subsea equipment for BP's Thunder Horse Field in the Gulf of Mexico. The Thunder Horse oil field is located in the Mississippi Canyon area of the Gulf of Mexico, 150 miles (240 kilometers) southeast of New Orleans in approximately 6,300 feet (1,920 meters) of water. FMC Technologies' scope of supply includes two manifolds and associated controls equipment . In addition, the scope includes several pipeline end terminations , flowline and well jumper kits and umbilical termination assemblies. Deliveries are scheduled to commence in the first half of 2013. FMC Technologies, Inc.wins order from CNR International Ltd. for subsea equipment for the Baobab field, offshore Ivory Coast. The Baobab field is located in Block CI-40 West Africa approximately 16 miles (25 kilometers) offshore from the Ivory Coast. FMC Technologies' scope of supply includes six subsea trees , eight wellheads , three manifolds , and a Subsea Control System including subsea distribution systems and associated topside control systems . The equipment is scheduled for delivery in 2014. FMC Technologies Receives $125 Million Order From Petrobras

FMC Technologies (NYSE: FTI) announced today that it has received a $125 million order from Petrobras (NYSE: PBR, PBRA), Brazil's national oil company, to supply equipment for use in their oil and gas developments offshore Brazil. German Marine Equipment Industries: Expansion to Protect World Market Position

German marine equipment suppliers are staying successful. Surveys of their industry association, the VDMA (German Engineering Federation), resulted in new record figures: in 2007, the sales achieved €11.9 billion with now 76,000 employees, making over 13.8% up on the previous year. The export rate was 73%. The sector could thus maintain and expand its world leading role for high tech systems for shipbuilding. 58% of the German suppliers expect the order inflow in home trading still to increase in 2008, pushed by the still extraordinarily high capacity utilization of the German shipyards. But the effects of the global shipbuilding boom can mainly be seen in the foreign markets.
