BOEM Seeks Public Input on Possible Offshore Wind Development in Gulf of Maine

The U.S. Bureau of Ocean Energy Management (BOEM) on Tuesday invited public comment on possible commercial wind energy development in areas offshore Massachusetts, New Hampshire, and Maine.BOEM said the call represented an early step in the commercial planning and leasing process in the Gulf fo Maine, and the first required by BOEM regulations.“BOEM is committed to transparent, inclusive and data-driven processes, and public input is essential to helping us determine areas that may be suitable for offshore wind development in the Gulf of Maine,” said BOEM Director Elizabeth Klein.

BOEM Taps Doug Boren to Lead Pacific Office

The Bureau of Ocean Energy Management (BOEM) announced Doug Boren has been appointed as the new regional director for the agency’s Pacific Office in Camarillo, Calif. Boren will be responsible for managing the development of energy and mineral resources on the U.S. Outer Continental Shelf (OCS) offshore California, Oregon, Washington and Hawaii.“Doug has many years of service with BOEM, working on aspects of OCS energy and minerals programs at the regional, national and international levels,” said BOEM Director Amanda Lefton.

BOEMRE, Oregon Form Offshore Renewable Energy Task Force

The Bureau of Ocean Energy Management, Regulation and Enforcement (BOEMRE) is holding its first offshore renewable energy task force meeting with the state of Oregon. This inter-governmental task force was established to facilitate communication between BOEMRE and state, local, tribal and federal stakeholders concerning commercial renewable energy leasing and development on the Outer Continental Shelf (OCS) off the coast of Oregon. Harland and Wolff to Consolidate Operations

Harland and Wolff Group PLC has confirmed that, against the backdrop of prevailing market conditions, it is to consolidate future operations into a single technically-led, project management organization. Accordingly, the company has entered into formal consultation with the relevant Trade Union officials in connection with the issuing of a 90 day protective notice of intention to effect a redundancy program (an HR1) covering 265 core employees (197 operators and 68 staff). It is the intention to have the workforce reductions completed by mid-January 2003. Despite the financial constraints of its current circumstances, the Company will seek to offer the best available redundancy package to individuals and, to that end, aims to implement an enhanced voluntary redundancy package.
