Hatteras Yachts/Cabo Taken Over

An affiliate of Versa Capital Management  has acquired the operating businesses of Hatteras/CABO from Brunswick Corporation. Hatteras Yachts is recognized as a world leader in the construction of convertible sportfishing and luxury motor yachts. CABO Yachts has enjoyed a well-deserved reputation as one the world’s top builders of sportfishing express boats from 36 to 52 feet. The acquisition is effective immediately. Purchase terms were not disclosed. “Both Hatteras and CABO are cornerstone American brands in their respective luxury marine markets, and both have been affected during the extended economic downturn,” stated Gregory L. Segall, CEO of Versa Capital.

Megayacht 'Arianna' Charters to be Handled by SG Private Wealth Advisors

SG Private Wealth Advisors, a billionaire-founded multi-family office, announce it has been chosen to manage all marketing efforts involving Arianna—a 50-meter mega yacht. This includes the promotion of Arianna's availability to charter. From the start of the project in 2009, SG Private Wealth Advisors has overseen all elements of the design, construction, and commissioning process for Arianna, including the facilitation of a $13,500,000 USD yacht construction loan. Hornblower Names Shaw COO

Hornblower Cruises & Events has appointed Bob Shaw, a senior executive with more than three decades of operations experience, to the position of chief operating officer. In his new role, Shaw will be responsible for day-to-day management of all Hornblower companies, including charter yacht and public dining operations and two National Park Service concession contracts. "Bob’s management and passenger vessel industry experience along with his accomplishments as an executive for several multi-million dollar companies give him invaluable perspective.

Chesapake Shipbuilding's Ugly Duck

M/V Ugly Duck began construction as a typical dinner/excursion vessel for Maritime Equipment Co., of Haddam, Conn. While the hull erection was in progress, Premier Yachts, Inc. of Chicago purchased the contract from Maritime Equipment and began converting the vessel's plans into a more upscale and unique arrangement. The vessel features a full galley, plus bar and wait station on the main deck forward, allowing maximum deck space aft for two curved buffet tables, DJ booth and dance floor. Having the galley forward also allows large tinted insulated glass windows across the stern of the vessel and along both sides. Special vibration and sound dampening methods are utilized to almost eliminate engine and propeller noise in the dining area.

Damen Yacht Support Vessel Game Changer Sold

Dutch shipyard Damen has confirmed the successful sale of its 70-meter support vessel, Game Changer. The yacht will now return to Gorinchem in the Netherlands for further customisation. Game Changer  is Damen's fourth Yacht Support vessel sold in the 70-metre segment, proving the ongoing demand for large yachting solutions for worldwide adventures, helicopter and dive operations. Damen has a total of 12 Damen Yacht Support vessels delivered or in build. The next available Yacht Support vessel is a 55-metre YS 5009 Adventure, which will be delivered before the summer this year.

Ingot and Tò-Kalòn Nominated for Awards

Burger Boat Company announced that Asia-Pacific Boating and China Boating magazines have nominated Tò-Kalòn, a 101 ft Burger Enclosed Bridge Motor Yacht, for “Most Innovative Exterior Yacht Design of the Year” and INGOT, a 153 ft Burger Tri-Deck Motor Yacht, for “Best Motor Yacht” (86 feet and up) for the 2009 Asia Boating Awards. The Annual Asia Boating Award was created by Asia-Pacific Boating and China Boating magazines to recognize the best of the maritime industry. Peak Shipping Season Is Approaching For United Yacht Transport

Spring is the busiest season for United Yacht Transport, the North American leader in boat transport. The international boat transporters are set to complete various shipments in the upcoming months. In the beginning of the year, the company did an incredible job making a shipment in the Mediterranean region. As a result, they will now be setting sail on more voyages across the globe. Carol Reid has joined Kvichak Marine Industries, Inc. as their Marketing Services Manager.  In her position she is responsible for all company related marketing, promotional and advertising functions. Prior to accepting the position she was in sales and marketing at Swiftsure Yachts, a premier full service yacht brokerage in Seattle, Wa.  In addition to a lifelong involvement in boating, Carol brings to Kvichak over eight years of direct experience in the marine industry.

Trident Shipworks Building High-Performance Luxury Catamarans

Palumbo Buys Mondomarine

Italian yard Palumbo Group has acquired the former Mondomarine facility in Savona on an initial six-month lease, reports local media. "By leasing the business unit of the Savona shipyard, Palumbo Group will grant the restart of the shipyard's activities, along with the immediate reinstatement of nine employees." Palumbo Group explained in a statement. The deal saves 9 jobs from the Italian shipyard that went into liquidation towards the end of 2017, which put a total of 57 jobs at risk.

MV Werften Cuts First Steel for Crystal Endeavor

Shipbuilder MV Werften said it has begun building Crystal’s new luxury expedition yacht, Crystal Endeavor, with first steel cut on January 15 at its shipyard in Stralsun, Germany. Set to debut in 2020, Crystal Endeavor will be Crystal’s largest and most spacious purpose-built Polar Class ship featuring all-suite, butler-serviced accommodations, and adventure in polar regions and other remote destinations. DYT Makes Large Yacht Shipments

In late February, Dockwise Yacht Transport’s (DYT) 456 ft Super Servant 3 left Port Everglades for Toulon, unloading 18 yachts and loading one in St. Thomas, then moved on to Martinique where it loaded 18 more yachts, totaling 32 power and sailing yachts for a final cargo value of $140m. In early March, the second of DYT’s fleet of semi-submersible transport ships, the 556 ft Super Servant 4, departed from Port Everglades, heading to Palma de Mallorca with another $140m worth of yachts.

Tenders Called for Floating Dock

The State Government has called for tenders for the construction of a floating dock at the Australian Marine Complex ( AMC ) in Henderson. Industry and Enterprise Minister Francis Logan said the floating dock was part of the $174m AMC expansion announced by Premier Alan Carpenter last year. The Minister said Australian-based companies were increasingly becoming recognised for their capacity to deliver complex contracts, especially in the shipbuilding and oil and gas industries. The floating dock was crucial to securing long-term maintenance work on the Royal Australian Navy ( RAN ) Collins Class submarine fleet, as well as enhancing WA’s bid for ongoing defence contracts.

UK yacht equipment specialist Lewmar to sponsor the 2012 Lewmar Hamble One Design Championships, the UK's premier winter sailing event. This sponsorship represents a furthering of Lewmar's commitment to UK competitive sailing, having been a long term supporter of the Hamble Winter Series as a day sponsor. Taking place over two packed weekends; the 13/14th and 27/28th October, the event is organised by Hamble River Sailing Club as a component championship of the incredibly popular Hamble Winter Series.

Keith Marine Relies on Wesmar

"Once we started using Wesmar bowthrusters we haven't used anything else," said Dick Keith, owner and founder of premier Florida boat builder Keith Marine of Palatka. He has installed 20 Wesmar's on luxury yachts and dinner cruise boats. "I like the power and efficiency of the counter rotating design. I like the stainless steel instead of bronze propellers," said Keith. His company operates a fleet of yachts ranging from 50 to 250 ft. including Luxury Dinner Cruisers, Cruising Yachts, treasury recovery vessels, Gambling Casinos, Cruise Tenders, Dive Boats, Tugs, Trawlers, and Paddlewheel Dinner Cruisers. Currently the company is building a 158-ft. Luxury Charter Vessel with a steel hull and superstructure.

Dead in the Water

Financial conditions at troubled Premier Cruise Line have obviously worsened, as the company is effectively out of business following the seizure of its five ships. In the process, thousands of vacationers have been left stranded. On Thursday U.S. investment bank Donaldson Lufkin & Jenrette seized the company's Big Red Boats and other ships. Premier chief executive Bruce Nierenberg said DLJ held mortgages on five Premier ships, that the company was behind on debt payments, and DLJ had taken control of the ships with an eye to selling them in order to recover $49 million in debts. A spokeswoman for DLJ, which controls a reported 80 percent of Premier after restructuring $180 million of debt…

W&O Acquires Valco / Premier Group

W&O a supplier of marine valves, pipe, fittings, engineered products and valve automation solutions, has acquired the Valco/Premier Group, which includes Premier Copper Manufacturing, Valco Piping Products and Premier Copper & Brass/Pacific. Based out of , the Valco/Premier group has manufacturing and distribution capabilities that will complement W&O’s maritime offerings. Premier Copper Manufacturing is an industry leader in the manufacture of copper nickel-fittings and flanges, and will be a direct source of copper-nickel products to W&O and its customers. Valco/Premier’s West Coast arm, Premier Copper & Brass/Pacific, will work in conjunction with W&O’s office, which is operated as Valve Automation & Controls.

Bream FEED Contract for Sevan Marine

Premier Oil Norway AS has awarded Sevan Marine a FEED (Front End Engineering and Design) contract for the hull and marine systems of a Sevan type cylindrical FPSO for operation on the Premier Oil operated Bream field in the Norwegian Central North Sea.
