New McAllister Tug Features JonRie Winch Set
JonRie Marine Winches supplied its fifth ship set of full bollard pull winches to New York’s McAllister Towing for installation on its new tug, Tate McAllister. The 92-foot x 32-foot Z-Drive tug was designed and built by Washburn & Doughty of East Boothbay, Maine. The 6,000-horsepower tug, with a bollard pull of 90 tons, is the latest addition to the McAllister fleet. The JonRie Series 250 escort winch was designed to handle the full bollard pull of the vessel in the recover mode.
OSD Rolls Out New Harbor Tug Design
Offshore Ship Designers (OSD) has launched a new tug design as part of its expanding portfolio of fuel-efficient vessels. The 390 gt Azistern 2870 harbor tug has a hard chine hull form which optimizes energy-saving during transit and results in a very low wash. It has a bollard pull of 70 metric tons and a maximum speed of 12 knots. Providing accommodation for six persons, it has an overall length of 28.3 m, and a breadth of 11.5 m. The Azistern 2870 has been designed with multiple deck equipment options, the installation of which are dependent on specific end-user preference.

Rolls-Royce Gets Offshore Vessel Contracts
Rolls-Royce has won contracts worth $76 million to supply design and equipment packages for nine offshore service vessels which will be built in four different shipyards for owners in Brazil, France, Norway and the U.S. The ship designs and packages of Rolls-Royce equipment will be supplied in 2002 and 2003, and the shipyards, located in Brazil, Denmark and Norway are scheduled to deliver the vessels in 2003 and 2004. There are currently 71 offshore service vessels of the type UT-Design from Rolls Royce on order or under construction around the world. SOSI Delivers Mooring Winches; Completes Test Pad
Sound Ocean Systems, Inc. (SOSI) announced the delivery of two unique mooring winches, both tested on its newly constructed test pad at its primary manufacturing facility in Sultan, Wash. SOSI recently delivered two all-electric, custom designed, VFD controlled large mooring winches developed for Oregon State University and the University of Washington. Although configured differently, both the 175 HP OSU Heavy Lift winch and the 75 HP UW Medium Lift winch contained SOSI’s continuous position sensing level wind system. The Heavy Lift Winch is capable of deploying or recovering 25,000 lbs.
Rocknes Successfully Parbuckled
On March 30, 2004, the parbuckling of MV ‘Rocknes’ in Agotnes, Norway, was completed successfully by SMIT Salvage. After two months of preparations, the final stage of the parbuckling process started March 27. In a two-day-long unique operation the vessel was pulled upright from its upside-down position with only a small starboard lift remaining. For this operation the salvors used the Dive Support/Salvage Vessel ‘SMIT Orca’, two immersion and salvage pontoons mounted on a semi-submersible flattop barge which together supported the pulling winches, and a supporting barge.
Jaya Delivers Vessel to Atlantic Towing
Offshore energy services provider, Jaya Holdings Limited, has delivered its second newbuild ice class anchor handling tug supply vessel to Canadian buyers, Atlantic Towing Limited. The 16,000-BHP vessel was delivered on February 7, 2014 in Singapore and was christened the Atlantic Merlin at a naming ceremony held earlier today. She was previously known as Jaya Sovereign until her delivery to Atlantic Towing. Atlantic Merlin is a sister ship of Atlantic Kestrel, which was delivered to Atlantic Towing in November 2012. Sheshashayee added, “This delivery begins another busy period for us and is the first of four new buildings for Jaya in 2014 and the other three ships will be operated in Jaya’s growing fleet.
FPSO Riser Pull-in Spread Order for IHC Winches
The delivery of the riser pull-in spread is scheduled for Q1 2013. Part of this system will be built in Brazil to meet the local content requirements for the project. The riser pull-in package consists of the following innovative products: a riser pull-in winch (designed for a 550mT maximum line pull); an auxiliary pull-in winch (150mT maximum line pull); and a sheave trolley system. The MODEC FPSO will be capable of processing 150,000 barrels of oil and 280MM-standard cubic feet of gas per day. East Boothbay, Maine based Washburn & Doughty said it has secured a contract with Harbor Docking and Towing, of Lake Charles, La., to design and build two 93’ x 38’ Hybrid Z Drive Tugs. The 93’ x 38’ hull is a proven design with 18 tugs in operation and 4 under construction. The vessel will be built as a Harbor Assist Vessel as defined in USCG Subchapter M and admeasure less than 200 gross tons U.S. regulatory tonnage. Rapp Electric Winches for New O’Hara Vessel
Rapp Hydema landed a contract for theoutfitting of the new trawler F/V Araho, a 185-ft. freezer-trawler being built for O’Hara Corporation at Eastern Shipbuilding in Pensacola, Fla. The owners had originally planned to retrofit the F/V Harvester Enterprise but instead opted for an outright newbuild. The new trawler build has potential to mark the first of several new trawler builds to replace aging hulls throughout the Alaskan trawl fleet. DNV Type Approved Anchor Winch for the Arctic Prowler
JK Fabrication has landed DNV certification for its 40-30-3000-DNV series Anchor Winch. Culminating a two-year process, JK’s C-series winch was at last awarded DNV Type Approval in March—the first time ever for an anchor winch in the U.S., the manufacturer said. Jaya Delivers AHTS Vessel for Mermaid Marine
Offshore marine services provider Jaya, now part of Mermaid Marine Australia Ltd. (MMA), today delivered Jaya Majestic, a new state-of-the-art anchor handling tug supply (AHTS) vessel into MMA’s international fleet. Jaya Majestic was built at the company’s Singapore shipyard and is the first vessel to be delivered following the acquisition of 100% of Jaya Holdings’ subsidiaries by MMA earlier this year. MMA is Australia’s largest marine services provider to the offshore oil and gas industry.

MacGregor Wins Deck Machinery Order in China
MacGregor, part of Cargotec, has signed contracts with Chinese shipyard Guangzhou Shunhai Shipyard Ltd to deliver anchor handling/towing winch packages for five 48m anchor handling tug supply (AHTS) vessels, each with a 75-tonne bollard pull and one 40m AHTS vessel with a 70-tonne bollard pull. Bay Delta Equips New Tug with Markey Winches
San Francisco headquartered Bay Delta Maritime commissioned a sixth Delta Class Tug with Nichols Brothers Boat Builders out of Whidbey Island Washington. The Jensen designed M/V Delta Audrey, is a 100’x40’ z-drive tractor tug that is set to be delivered in June. The Tractor Tug is ABS load line certified and consists of a complete propulsion system that includes two Caterpillar 3516C diesel engines coupled to the Rolls Royce propulsion package. This system will produce 93 tons of bollard pull with a combined horsepower of 6800, giving the tug exceptional pulling power and maneuverability.
Rigmarine Provides Custom Winch Package for Caspian Sea Topside
Lifting and marine product specialist Rigmarine said it has recently supplied a bespoke winch system for a multinational oil and gas company, a key customer in the Caspian Sea region. The riser pull-in system comprises 38t and 12t winches, in addition to key components such as hydraulic power units, tensiometers and multiple sheave assemblies. The winches will be used intermittently over a five-year period for riser and cable pull-in activities. They will be fixed onto an offshore platform upon delivery but can be relocated in line with the requirements of the project.
Naust Marine Wins Huge Winch Order
Hradfrystihusid Gunnvor (HG) and Vinnslustodin (VSV) recently awarded Naust Marine contracts to provide a complete suite of electric winches for their newbuild trawlers. Naust will supply no less than 29 winches per vessel, including three trawl winches and three Gilsons; six sweepline, two outhaul, two codend, four backstrap, three retriever and two net-lifting winches are included as auxiliaries. In addition to these, there is an anchor winch, a net reel, and—not widely known outside Europe—two winches of the trix type.

The lead vessel of 2 new tugboats, 'Hawaii' has been delivered by J.T. Marine of Vancouver equipped with JonRie winches. The new Hyak Tug is a 37 Meter 80 Ton Bollard Pull Line Haul ASD complete with a JonRie Series 200 Bow winch with a capacity of 150M of 60 mm line, a line pull of 5 Tons, a line speed of 20 M/m and a brake with capacity of 200 Tons with an independent capstan. Eastern Delivers MPFSV to Harvey Gulf
Eastern Shipbuilding Group, Inc. has delivered the M/V Harvey Stone on August 29, 2016 for Harvey Gulf International Marine, LLC of New Orleans. The Harvey Stone, Eastern Hull 234, is a Rampage 6400 Multi-Purpose Field Support Vessel (MPFSV), designed by Robert Allan, LTD (RAL) of Vancouver, B.C. Eastern is also completing the Harvey Sub-Sea and the Harvey Blue-Sea, two MPSVs under construction at Eastern, from a design provided by VARD Marine. The Harvey Sub-Sea is expected to deliver in 2016, after outfitting and sea trials are completed.
Comprehensive Winch Outfitting for New Trawlers
Fishing company HB Grandi of Iceland recently awarded Naust Marine a contract for complete winch outfitting of three new 180 ft. fishing trawlers. The contract, of record size for the winch supplier, will see Naust provide no less than 20 electrical winches per vessel, including two trawl winches and three Gilsons each; four sweep-line winches, one out-haul winch, one cod-end winch, two backstrap winches, three retriever winces, one third wire winch and one trix-winch, located close to the sweep line winches. In addition to these, there are two anchor-mooring winches.
New Barge Pulling System
Thern Inc. announced a new alternative -- The Barge Pulling System – to help position barges more efficiently when loading and unloading, without the use of tug boats. The new system uses two power winches and a control panel that is designed to help operators easily maneuver barges along the edge of the pier. By letting out line on one of the winches and pulling in on the other, the system is able to control the tension so operators can reduce slack and eliminate barge drift. To accurately position the barge, operators can either control each winch individually or in tandem, either manually or automatically. A special indicator switch lets the operator select the mode, while a joystick provides directional control.
JonRie Winches Installed on Marine Towing’s New ASDs
The Super Series 220 Double Drum Bow Winch was designed for a larger capacity rope. This concept used on the Panama Canal for many years as a redundant line tethered to the ship also acts as an Escort Bridle making the tug more stable in prop wash during long escorts. The Twin drums also afford a less loading on each rope under braking. Both drums feature JonRie’sActive Heave Compensation systems. All winches on the tug feature independent drives for each drum and JonRie’s standard foot pedal for hands free operation.
