Finland Ferries Standardizes with SCHOTTEL

The SCHOTTEL After Sales Team has carried out a modernization on two double-ended ferries operated by FinFerries. Both vessels, capable of holding either 14 cars or up to 60 tons of payload, were originally equipped with various propeller systems manufactured in different years. For the retrofit, the state-owned operator requested a tailor-made concept to allow the same propeller assembly to be used. At the same time, the solution had to be quick and easy to install. In each ferry, two SCHOTTEL Rudderpropellers type SRP 150 have been installed.

With SCHOTTEL’s new training program, the participants determine the date, location and content. The spectrum extends from courses on individual products to in-depth training with a specific focus, either at company headquarters in Spay or directly on board the trainee’s vessel. The new program covers product- and application-oriented topics. In the product seminars, technical crew members and maintenance personnel acquire expert know-how on individual SCHOTTEL propulsion systems.

Schottel Optimizes Training With Simulator

Since autumn 2014 customers can exercise their handling and knowledge of SCHOTTEL propulsion systems in the SCHOTTEL Academy by using a training simulator. Academy participants are seated as if on the bridge of a real vessel and learn how to deal safely with the different SCHOTTEL propulsion systems, control levers, operator panels and displays. Again and again, crews are faced with situations where a fast response is essential – both during their normal work and even more so in emergencies, such as sudden evasive manoeuvres or system failures.
