New Vessel Deliveries

Seacraft Shipyard Corp., Amelia, La., recently delivered M/V Sea Holly, a 110 ft. live-aboard long range yacht, designed for extended excursions. The entire exterior of the vessel was faired and painted to a yacht-quality finish and the bottom of the vessel was coated with a high-performance anti-fouling paint. On the aft main deck are a flat bottom skiff and a vee bottom runabout, both of which are secured on removable boat cradles. The main deck cabin features a full service galley. Kitty Hawk Returns From Sea Trials

Large harbor tugs assist USS Kitty Hawk (CV 63) as she returns to her forward deployed base after conducting sea trials. U.S. USS Kitty Hawk (CV 63) returned to Yokosuka on May 7 after conducting sea trials in the Tokyo Bay. The carrier was at sea for three days testing its shipboard systems and equipment following a four-month selected restrictive availability (SRA) maintenance period. Sailors also participated in a number of drills and exercises, such as mass casualty and man overboard drills. “Sea trials give us a better judgment of where the ship is at and where the crew’s training level is that you can’t find by sitting next to the pier,” said Machinist’s Mate 1st Class (SW/AW) Chad Hemric, Safety Department leading petty officer.

Northrop Grumman, US Navy Conduct Successful Simultaneous Tests

Northrop Grumman Corporation (NYSE: NOC) and the U.S. Navy successfully flew the unmanned MQ-8B Fire Scout simultaneously with the MH-60R Sea Hawk helicopter for the first time. The capability demonstrates how a mix of aircraft can increase a ship commander's intelligence-gathering capabilities aboard the Littoral Combat Ship. The flight tests took place May 12, aboard the USS Freedom (LCS 1) off the coast of San Diego. Fire Scout complements the Sea Hawk because it can fly longer to maintain constant surveillance on a target or area of interest.

Steam Boiler Delivered to U.S. Factory Trawler

PARAT Halvorsen AS has been awarded an order for an 8000 kgs/h Steam Boiler Plant to be installed in the factory trawler, Northern Hawk, which is owned by the United States fishing company, Coastal Villages Pollock, LLC. Northern Hawk is a Stern Trawler, built by the shipyard Ulstein Hatlø in 1990. PARATs delivery is a retrofit of the existing boiler plant, designed to meet the needs of the on-board fishmeal plant and vessel heating system. The new boiler plant will be delivered with the latest technology for burning fish oil.

Carl Vinson Strike Group Departs for Deployment to Western Pacific

More than 6,000 Sailors assigned to Carl Vinson Strike Group ships and units departed the U.S. West Coast, Jan. 4-5, for a regularly scheduled deployment to the Western Pacific. The deployment marks the second time the Carl Vinson Strike Group will operate throughout the Indo- Pacific region under U.S. 3rd Fleet's command and control. The strike group became the first in recent history to demonstrate the command and control construct called Third Fleet Forward when units completed a six-month deployment last year. Teamwork Key in Kitty Hawk’s SRA progress

As USS Kitty Hawk (CV 63) enters its fourth month of a ship's restricted availability (SRA) period April 6, Sailors, Ship's Repair Facility (SRF) workers, and Japanese contractors work together to ensure the Navy's oldest active-duty warship remains in fighting shape. Maintenance and repairs being completed aboard Kitty Hawk affect almost every space and compartment on the ship. “As Kitty Hawk approaches her 45th birthday, I believe the team we have here is key to keeping Kitty Hawk battle ready. I know she’s as combat ready today as any other ship in the fleet thanks to the work done by the 2,000 Japanese contractors, SRF workers and the ship’s crew,” said Capt. Ed McNamee, Kitty Hawk’s commanding officer.

Refueling Down Under

The conventionally powered aircraft carrier USS Kitty Hawk (CV 63) receives fuel during a replenishment at sea from the Royal Australian Navy auxiliary oiler replenishment ship HMAS Success (AOR 304). The guided missile cruiser USS Cowpens (CG 63) and the guided missile destroyer USS John Paul Jones (DDG 53) trail astern. Kitty Hawk is currently operating in the Coral Sea off the coast of Australia's Queensland region as part of Exercise Talisman Sabre 2005. Talisman Sabre is an exercise jointly sponsored by the U.S. Pacific Command and Australian Defense Force Joint Operations Command, and designed to train the U.S. Seventh Fleet commander's staff and Australian Joint Operations staff as a designated Combined Task Force (CTF) headquarters.

Double Hull Tanker Delivered For Duty

Exxon Mobil Corporation announced that the M/T Hawk , a new double-hull very large crude oil carrier (9VLCC), was delivered for leasing to a Trust established by MARCARE Shipping Co., a joint shipping venture among subsidiaries of ExxonMobil, the Onassis Group and Petros J. Goulandris Sons Group. The Hawk, the first of two sister vessels to be leased to MARCARE, will be chartered by International Marine Transportation Limited (IMT), a subsidiary of Exxon Mobil Corporation based in the UK. The joint venture, in which all three partners hold an equal share, was formed in December 1998. The ship was built by Hyundai Heavy Industries and delivered at a naming ceremony today at Hyundai's Ulsan, Korea shipyard, the world's largest yard. The 307,000 dwt Hawk is 1,100 ft. (335 m) long, 190 ft.

Coastal Tanker Work Drives MMS Business

The coastal tanker industry has been one of MMS Shiprepair’s (Hull) largest contributors during recent weeks, ships including Everard’s 3,778 dwt Asperity, and 3,778 dwt Audacity. The offshore industry has also been a contributor - the 3,115 dwt Safe Truck, this is owned by Sea Truck Ltd, Sutton UK and the 1,336 dwt Toisa Crest, owned by Toisa Ltd, in Hamilton. Also recently at the yard is the 1,308 dwt salvage tug Anglian Monarch this vessel is owned by Klyne Marine Services Ltd, Lowestoft and two dredgers - the 5,872 dwt Arco Beck, owned by Hanson Civil & Marine Ltd, Southampton and the 197 grt Sea Horse, which is owned by Crowley Marine Services Inc, Seattle. Recent projects have involved the 1,370 dwt Trobo, which is owned by Paul Wilson & Co.

Sea Hawk Paints Names Detmer as COO

Mike Detmer has been appointed to the position of chief operating officer at New Nautical Coatings, Inc. Based at the company’s headquarters in Clearwater, Fla., Detmer will report to Erik Norrie, co-founder and chief executive officer at Sea Hawk Paints. His responsibilities will include overseeing day-to-day operations as well as executing key strategic growth initiatives. Prior to joining New Nautical Coatings, Inc. and the Sea Hawk brand, Detmer spent two years as president of the Niles division of Nortek, Inc.’s AVC Group.

Hovercraft Creates Lifeline to Alaska Drill Site

About half a million barrels of oil is extracted each day from Alaska’s Prudhoe Bay oilfields. One of its drilling sites, Endicott, is located on a spit of land connected by the gravel Prudhoe Bay road system and is normally accessible by truck – until recently, when the road was washed out. Faced with the dilemma of how to get workers, food and supplies to the work site, Hilcorp, a privately-held exploration and production companies in the U.S., turned to Crowley and its hovercraft, Arctic Hawk.

Army Helicopter Reported Down in Waters off Oahu

U.S. Coast Guard and U.S. Army personnel are responding to a report of a downed Army UH-60 Black Hawk helicopter with five crew aboard approximately two miles west of Kaena Point, Oahu, Wednesday. A debris field was spotted near Kaena Point by the Coast Guard Hercules and Army Black Hawk aircrews at 11:28 p.m. Tuesday. Responders are currently searching for the five missing aircrewmen. Watchstanders at the Coast Guard Joint Rescue Command Center in Honolulu received a call at 10:08 p.m. Tuesday from personnel at Wheeler Army Airfield stating they lost communications with one of their UH-60 Black Hawk aircrews. Watchstanders issued an urgent marine information broadcast and directed the launch of response assets.

APM Terminals Poti to Build Cargo Terminal

APM Terminals Poti and Poti New Terminals Consortium signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) for a USD 100 million dollar investment in a new bulk cargo terminal that can process 1.5 million tons of dry bulk cargo annually and generate new trade opportunities for customers in the Georgian transit corridor. The new terminal is expected to be built on APM Terminals Poti land and infrastructure and will entail the construction, development and operation of a new breakwater, dry bulk cargo terminal and related infrastructure to serve bulk cargo customers.

Socgen Joins SEA\LNG

Horizon Hawk Enters Service

The Horizon Hawk, a new 2,824 TEU containership in the Horizon Lines, Inc. fleet, made her maiden call today at Tacoma, launching the carrier's enhanced Transpacific-1 (TP1) service between Mainland US, Guam, Micronesia and Asia. The Horizon Hawk is the first of the five Hunter class vessels entering service this year for Horizon Lines, the leading American domestic ocean carrier. All five are of proven international design, have a service speed of over 23 knots and are U.S.-flag, foreign built vessels that Horizon Lines is chartering from subsidiaries of Ship Finance International Limited under definitive long-term charters and related agreements.

Dr Lam Pin Min, Senior Minister of State (SMS) for Ministry of Transport and Ministry of Health, launched the Sea Transport Industry Transformation Map (ITM) at the annual Singapore Maritime Foundation New Year Cocktail Reception. Developed by the Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore (MPA) in partnership with the industry, unions and other government agencies, the Sea Transport ITM builds on MPA’s strategic long term plans to develop Singapore’s next-generation port and strengthen our international maritime centre (IMC).

Final Legwork Underway to Move Transocean Winner

Final preparations for moving the Transocean Winner rig onto the Hawk vessel are continuing and good progress has been made on the operation in Broad Bay.   The anchors have now been disconnected and the rig is being held on four tugs about half a mile from the Hawk.   The Hawk has almost completed ballasting and is making final preparations to receive the rig.   Weather conditions are improving by the hour and if this continues then it is extremely likely that the rig will be floated over the Hawk later this morning or early this afternoon.   As long as the weather holds, the Transocean Winner will be loaded onto the Hawk and taken out of the water within the next 24 hours. The operation itself is, however, going to be lengthy.

Kitty Hawk Makes History During 3M Assessment

During USS Kitty Hawk’s (CV 63) recent maintenance and material management (3M) assessment, which concluded Nov. 14, the ship made history by becoming the first aircraft carrier ever to complete the assessment without a single department receiving an unsatisfactory grade. “We received an overall grade of 96 percent,” said Senior Chief Electrician’s Mate (SW) Frank Miller, Kitty Hawk’s senior 3M coordinator. “We topped the last 3M assessment, for which we received a 95, and none of our 17 departments were graded as unsatisfactory. The assessment, conducted by a team from Commander, Naval Air Forces (CNAF), evaluated Kitty Hawk’s 3M program in several areas, with the ship scoring highest in regards to 3M administration and command involvement in the program.

Stanford Marine Fleet Gains 75m Diesel Electric PSV

Stanford Marine, a regional offshore marine business, announced today from its Dubai headquarters the delivery of the latest addition to its fleet. The Stanford Hawk, a 75m diesel electric platform supply vessel (PSV) is one of two sister vessels being built at the Fujian Mawei shipyard in Fuzhou, China. The Hawk and her sister due for delivery by end of the second quarter 2014, the Stanford Eagle, are modern closed bow designed PSV’s with DP2 and FiFi1 notation. Signal Dock - Thunder Hawk Hull Repair

Signal International announced that SBM-Atlantia’s Thunder Hawk is currently drydocked at the company’s Port Arthur Texas facility for hull repairs. The huge structure arrived at Port Arthur after being transported from Singapore on a heavy lift dry-tow vessel. Drydocking of the newbuild semi will enable Signal to repair damage that was done to Thunder Hawk’s pontoons before leaving Southeast Asia.
