Shell Considering Sale of Downstream Businesses in Italy

Shell announced it is considering the sale of its Retail, Aviation and Supply and Distribution Downstream businesses in Italy. Shell’s non-service station Lubricants and Marine businesses are not part of this announcement. This announcement also has no impact on the Upstream and Gas and Power businesses in Italy. These businesses present strong growth opportunities for the company in Italy. The potential sale is consistent with Shell’s strategy to concentrate its global Downstream businesses where it can be most competitive. Recent examples include the sale of refineries in the U.K.

Chevron Lubricant Receives Approval from WinGD

Chevron Marine Lubricants received a No Objection Letter (NOL) from Winterthur Gas & Diesel (WinGD) for the use of its Taro Special HT 100 cylinder lubrication oil in a number of the manufacturer’s engines when operating on a wide variety of fuels from 0.0% to 3.5% sulphur, including fuels compliant with emissions control area (ECA) regulations with a maximum content of 0.10% sulphur, eliminating the need to change cylinder lubricants when operating in and out of ECAs. This follows 2,000 hours of validation testing on-board a Panamax containership fitted with a Wärtsilä 8RT-flex82T engine. The NOL applies to the use of Taro Special HT 100 in WinGD X…

Dordrecht Inland Seaport to Get LNG Bunker Station

The Port of Rotterdam Authority wants a new multi-fuel bunkering station for refuelling with LNG and other cleaner fuels. The anticipated location of the bunkering station is Krabbegors/Duivelseiland at Dordrecht Inland Seaport. ExxonMobil to Integrate Lubricants Businesses in Europe

ExxonMobil Lubricants announced it is integrating the Esso and Mobil lubricants operations in Europe. The European regional office for the ExxonMobil lubricants business has been established in Brussels and is fully operational. The integration at the country level will begin shortly and should be completed by the end of the year. This consolidation of ExxonMobil's lubricants business follows receipt of European regulatory approvals and completion of an agreement to dissolve the Mobil-BP joint venture.

BP Marine to Migrate Marine Lubricant to Castrol

Consolidation will provide marine customers with a simpler and more consistent product offering. Global lubricants manufacturer, Castrol, has announced that it will become the sole brand for the BP group’s marine lubricant offering. The decision to consolidate the marine lubricants offerings that are currently provided under both BP Marine and Castrol Marine brands will create a single product and service portfolio that will provide greater simplicity and efficiency for customers.

Mobil-Brand Marine Lubricant Service Available

Mobil Corporation's affiliates will now offer marine lubricant service to shipping companies calling on ports located in the Dominican Republic, Curacao, Aruba and Bonaire. A full range of Mobil-brand marine lubricants is available in 11 ports in the Dominican Republic, as well as the ports of Willemstad and Bullenbaai in Curacao; Oranjestad in Aruba and Kralendijk in Bonaire.

Pair of Fire/Rescue Boats Now on Duty

Boat builder Lake Assault Boats has placed two fire and rescue boats into service with the San Bernardino County Fire Department in California. The versatile landing craft style vessels – one 28 feet long and the other 26 feet long – are equipped to handle a wide range of emergency response scenarios. “Having two of our boats on duty with the San Bernardino County Fire Department is an honor,” said Chad DuMars, Lake Assault Boats vice president of operations. The 28-foot craft is stationed in Needles, Calif. and serves on the Colorado River.

Shear Stability: The Key to Proper EAL Gear Oil Selection

Selection of gear oil for marine thrusters or a stern tube lubricant for use with propeller shaft bearings is often based on analyzing price/performance characteristics of the lubricant and its availability. Now with the implementation of the 2013 Vessel General Permit, this analysis must be expanded to include environmentally acceptable lubricants (EALs) that meet the new EPA standards. To meet environmental requirements, EALs are blended from base oils other than mineral oil. They still meet the same lubricant objective – providing long-term equipment protection.

ExxonMobil Marine Lubricants and the Greek Group, a collection of likeminded Greek shipping families, celebrated a 50-year business partnership this summer, representing the oil company’s longest-running supply agreement with a Marine customer organization. The Greek Group was established in 1961 when nine shipping family companies formed a fuel and lubricants purchasing group with Mobil Bunker Ltd., London. The original companies, organised as the Prometheus Group, were mainly from the island of Chios in the eastern Aegean sea and had settled in London during World War II.

Marine Lubricant Suppliers in Global Supply Link-up

Aegean Marine Petroleum Network and SK Lubricants sign an agreement that will allow Aegean to increase its sales volumes in the marine lubricants market and SK Lubricants to extend its global sales network. Under the global cooperation agreement between the companies, Aegean will supply and deliver marine lubricant products to customers of SK Lubricants in the Aegean lubricants network, which currently covers 45 countries and 550 ports worldwide, and SK Lubricants will provide Aegean's customers in South Korea with marine lubricant products. E. Nikolas Tavlarios, President, commented, "Our agreement with SK Lubricants will allow Aegean to expand sales volumes for our marine lubricants and further extend our presence in the Asian market.

Tall Ship Runs Aground in Newport Harbor

U.S. Coast Guard Station Castle Hill established a safety zone in Newport Harbor, R.I., Sunday night after a tall ship lost power and hit multiple other vessels before grounding near Perrotti Park. No injuries or pollution have been reported. The SSV Oliver Hazard Perry, an educational tall ship homeported in Newport, was leaving Bowen's Wharf Seafood Festival with 12 crewmembers aboard when it lost power and began to drift. A 911 dispatcher alerted Coast Guard watchstanders to the incident at about 6:15 p.m.
