Bisso Marine Acquires New SAT System

Bisso Marine, provider of energy and maritime support services, has acquired a 12-man portable Saturation Diving System. The new SAT System has a working depth of 1,000 feet (300 meters). WR Systems Awarded NAVSUP Contract

 WR Systems, Ltd. (WR) of Norfolk, Virginia has been awarded an order for the establishment of a Mini Stock Point for wireless communication and navigation systems by the Naval Supply Systems Command Weapon Systems Support (NAVSUP WSS).  The period of performance is February 2, 2015 through February 1, 2016.  This contract will serve as the Government's commercial stock point and will assist in the expediting of requisitions to the fleet. NAVSUP is a command of the US Navy located in Mechanicsburg, PA that delivers logistics and support. WR Systems expanded its commercial maritime service network last October by opening strategic service centers in Tampa and New Orleans. 

GL Renewables Certification Updates Type Certification for Vestas' V52 Turbine

Vestas Wind Systems has received an update of the type certificate for its V52-850 kW wind turbine from GL Renewables Certification (GL). Vestas Wind Systems expanded its manufacturing portfolio for the V52 wind turbine to its hubs in China. The type certificate has been updated and now includes production of this wind turbine type in Vestas' new manufacturing facilities in China. The Type Certificate confirms that the V52 wind turbine complies with the requirements of the International Standard regarding design, power quality and verification of the load assumptions.

Victoria Shipyard Wins BC Ferry Retrofit Contract

BC Ferries announced that Victoria Shipyards has been awarded the $9m contract to perform major modification work on the replacement vessel for the Queen of the North. The vessel, currently named MV Sonia, is being painted in Greece and preparations for its transatlantic crossing are well underway, including engine modifications to enable the use of cleaner-burning marine diesel fuel. On November 15, 2006, a crew of BC Ferries’ employees is scheduled to sail the ship from Greece to British Columbia. En route, she will travel through the Panama Canal and is expected to arrive at Victoria Shipyards in mid-December. The vessel will be renamed and reflagged as a Canadian vessel. It will enter service on BC Ferries’ Port Hardy – Prince Rupert – Queen Charlotte Island routes in April 2007.

Transocean Ultra-Deepwater Drillship Contract

Transocean Ltd. (NYSE:RIG) announced that the Discoverer Clear Leader has commenced operations for Chevron U.S.A. Inc., a wholly owned subsidiary of Chevron Corporation (NYSE:CVX), in the U.S. Gulf of Mexico under a five-year drilling contract. The Discoverer Clear Leader is the first of five Transocean ultra-deepwater enhanced Enterprise-class drillships scheduled to commence operations in 2009 and 2010. The dynamically positioned, double-hulled Discoverer Clear Leader includes the most advanced drilling capabilities in the offshore drilling industry.

Harvey Bisso Launches Subsea Venture

Harvey Bisso Subsea has launched operations to provide subsea services to the energy and maritime industries. The centerpiece of the venture is a new, fully-classed 12-man Saturation Diving System with a working depth of 1,000 feet. The portable SAT system will be deployed from the Harvey Discovery, a 265 x 58-ft, DP2 certified multi-purpose support vessel outfitted with a 65-ton crane and moon pool. The vessel provides accommodations for up to 53. The new SAT System features a gas reclaim system, which allows expelled gases to be circulated and recycled.

Compact Dredge Monitoring System Released

CT Systems officially released what it is calling the world’s first all in one dredging computer, GeoDredge. GeoDredge houses all necessary components in a single housing. GeoDredge acts as a hardware platform for the Viking software. CT Systems said its goal is for any operator to be able to operate the system without any prior extensive training. ABS Nautical systems Expands Again

ABS Nautical Systems Expands Presence in Europe and the Middle East. ABS Nautical Systems has signed five new contracts in Europe and the Middle East. These new agreements signify the continued growth experienced in this region and the demand for the organization’s’ fully integrated asset management software, NS5 Enterprise. Piraeus-based companies Aegean Bunkering Services Inc. and Atlantic Bulk Carries Management Ltd., will utilize the NS5 Hull Inspection software through the ABS Newbuild program, which offers free software to ABS-classed vessels built after 1 January 2009.

ABS Nautical Systems Gains Three Greek Customers

ABS Nautical Systems expands in Greece with contracts signed by Sun Enterprises Ltd., Quintana Shipping Ltd. and Nautilus Marine Acquisition Corp. All three companies will utilize ABS Nautical Systems’ Energy & Environmental Manager module through the ABS Newbuild Program, which offers complimentary software to ABS-classed vessels built after January 1, 2009. Sun Enterprises Ltd., located in Piraeus, serves as the consolidated operating company for a modern fleet of tankers and dry bulk carriers. The company will implement the software solution on three of its newly-built vessels. Quintana Shipping Ltd. located in Kifisia is an international provider of shipping transportation services through the ownership and operation of dry bulk vessels.

Sea Sentry to Monitor Bulk Carrier's SOX Scrubbers

The CTG Sea Sentry is a wash water monitoring system which monitors both the sensor inlet and outlet of wet exhaust gas scrubber systems. CTG has to date supplied monitoring systems globally to the marine industry’s leading providers of Exhaust Gas Cleaning Systems and announced the recent installation of the new improved Sea Sentry on board a major bulk carrier to monitor a newly installed SOx Scrubber system. To comply with International Maritime Organization (IMO) environmental regulations, global shipping is required to meet specific exhaust gas emission levels.

Foxx Sworn in as 17th U.S. Secretary of Transportation

Charlotte Mayor Anthony Foxx was sworn in as the nation’s 17th Secretary of Transportation by Judge Nathaniel Jones in a private ceremony at U.S. Department of Transportation headquarters at 11 a.m. yesterday (July 2). The ceremony was attended by Foxx’s wife, Samara, and their two children, Hillary and Zachary, and used a Bible belonging to Secretary Foxx’s great-grandparents, Peter and Ida Kelly. Secretary Foxx worked for Judge Jones as a law clerk for the U.S. Sixth Circuit Court of Appeals after law school and invited Judge Jones to administer the oath of office today.

Japanese Foreign Minister Taro Kono has visited the port of Colombo in Sri Lanka. Kono was briefed by Sri Lankan government officials about a project under consideration to expand the port. The Japanese Foreign Minister  also visited the newly built control tower and the Colombo Port Expansion Project currently known as the Colombo south Port. Colombo is the largest port in Sri Lanka, which is a strategically important point in Indian Ocean sea lanes. Taro Kono was briefed by the Chairman of Sri Lanka Ports Authority (SLPA) Dr.

ABS Rolls Out New Fleet Management Software

ABS announced the release of its Nautical Systems (NS) Enterprise fleet management software, including NS Insight, a new business intelligence module. The NS solution provides complete capabilities to plan, execute and document all compliance work processes. The release includes a new cloud-based NS Voyage Manager, the latest mobile applications, an expanded NS Autologger, and enhancements to NS Health, Safety, Quality and Environmental (HSQE) Manager. “Effectively managing compliance is a core business objective for our clients,” said ABS Chief Digital Officer, Howard Fireman.

Cheniere Signs 15-year LNG Supply Pact with Trafigura

U.S. natural gas producer Cheniere Energy Inc said on Tuesday Singapore-based commodity trader Trafigura Pte Ltd would buy about 1 million tonnes of natural gas per year from its unit for 15 years, starting 2019. The agreement with Cheniere Marketing, LLC would help the Houston-based company to fund its expansion plans, Chief Executive Jack Fusco said. The company has been expanding its presence in Asia to benefit from the rising demand for liquefied natural gas from the region.

New Platform for Managing Liquid Terminal Product Movements

Andreas Silcher Negotiates LNG Carrier Contracts

Partner Andreas Silcher in Haynes and Boone’s London office represented TMS Cardiff Gas in its contract with Hyundai Heavy Industries of Korea (HHI) for the construction of one 174,000 cubic meter LNG carrier with XDF propulsion, plus an option for a second vessel. In a press release, TMS Cardiff Gas called the order the first in the company’s X Carrier Series of orders, which expands the company’s fleet of managed vessels to 10. The vessel is scheduled for delivery in 2020, when she will enter into a seven-year time charter contract with TOTAL Gas & Power Chartering, Limited.

ABS Nautical Systems Expands in Vancouver, Shanghai

ABS Nautical Systems opened offices in Vancouver, BC Canada and Shanghai, China as part of the company’s continued efforts to expand its global footprint. The Vancouver office will serve local clients including Teekay Corporation, Seaspan Ship Management Ltd., and Valles, while handling all Pacific Northwest operations, spanning from Northern California to Canada including Alaska. ABS Nautical Systems has also opened an office in Shanghai to service maritime companies within China. Shanghai has a strong maritime presence and has ranked first of the world's busiest cargo ports and as such, ABS Nautical Systems foresees a large growth opportunity in this market.

Maersk Drilling Bags Contract with Tullow Ghana

Maersk Drilling has been awarded a four year contract for the deep-water drillship Maersk Venturer by Tullow Ghana Ltd. The contract, which was signed December 2017, is expected to commence in February 2018 and covers development drilling on the Jubilee and TEN fields offshore Ghana. Maersk Venturer is currently in transit for the job offshore Ghana thereby further strengthening Maersk Drilling’s presence in the region. ”I am very pleased that Maersk Drilling will be mobilising another deepwater rig for this significant job in a strategically important region.
