Tandemloc Debuts AR12 Series Diametral Tongs

Tandemloc Inc. continues its product expansion with the new and in stock product line, AR12 Series Diametral Tongs. Tandemloc’s off-the-shelf AR12 Diametral Tongs range in capacities up to 3,000 lbs. with a 14” maximum diameter. The Tong’s diameter can also be customized per the customer’s individual requirements. The Diametral Tongs are for handling cylindrical items, such as pipe, round bar and any other cylindrical item falling within the working load limit and diameter size that each tong is designed for. The AR12 Series Tongs include the Tandemloc Autolatch for easy object engagement.

Air Hoists Give Tank Cleaning a Lift

More and more companies are turning to air-operated hoists for effective ways to clean storage tanks, manufacturer J D Neuhaus (JDN) reports. Typically, injector heads with nozzles are used to clean inside these inherently dirty vessels by dispensing hot/cold water or steam at high pressures. Conrad Shipyard Delivers Liftboat to Alliance

Conrad Shipyard, L.L.C., a Conrad Industries, Inc. company, has delivered the M/V J.B. Moffett to Alliance Offshore of Larose, La. The J.B. Moffett is a 200’ class liftboat equipped with CAT C18 main propulsion coupled with Twin Disc MGX516 gears delivering 600HP, each at 1,800 RPM. There are eight Braden C400 gearboxes per leg being driven by auxiliary Cat C18’s. The Gensets are CAT C9 175 Kw. The lifting devices are by TechCrane International. There is one F60 fixed boom and an L200 125 ton lattice boom. The interior accommodates 43 with mess seating for 24.

Konecranes Vows to Improve Efficiency, Reduce Costs

As preliminarily communicated in the stock exchange release on June 19, 2013, Konecranes’ profitability development has been unsatisfactory amid the current challenging business environment, the company said in a news release. In addition, the economic environment remains uncertain, and Konecranes said it will prepare accordingly. The company is planning new measures to reduce annual cost base by EUR 30 million by the end of 2014 of which roughly two-thirds relates to the Business Area Equipment and one-third to the Business Area Service. Furthermore, Konecranes is planning new actions to reach savings in variable costs. The total cash-based restructuring costs are estimated at maximum EUR 20 million for the years 2013 to 2014.

Bureau Veritas Launches Wind Farm Service Ships Guidance

International classification society Bureau Veritas has published guidance for designers and builders of Wind Farm Service Ships. Maxime Pachot, offshore service vessel manager at Bureau Veritas, says, “Although some of the existing Offshore Service Vessel fleet can perform the tasks necessary for developing and maintaining offshore wind farms, we see an increasing need for specialist craft. These will include specialised vessels for servicing offshore wind farms. These will have particular characteristics and to be efficient they will have to be new designs.

Feature: Maritime Mission Impossible Accomplished

By Capt. In 2002 the globally operated Korean engineering and construction firm Daewoo E & C Co., Ltd., secured a project order from Shell Petroleum Development Company (SPDC) of Nigeria to construct a gas gathering plant on two concrete barges, to be positioned in the Awoba Creek near the Sambriero River. This gas gathering plant would be connected with a pipeline to the Cawthorne Channel Integrated Project (CCIP). The CCIP is a gas-gathering project, which is a big step forward in contributing to the "flare out" target date in 2008 of the numerous gas flares, as mandated by the Nigerian Government. On December 19 and 22, 2003, respectively, the Process Barge and the Control Barge were safely put on the underwater foundation in Awoba, and first gas is expected by Spring 2004.

M. Ship Launches Experimental Vessel

M. Ship Co. launched the M80 Stiletto, designed as an operational experiment for the Pentagon's Office of Force Transformation (OFT) and an example of the next generation of military vessels that combines new materials (carbon fiber), with a networked architecture and a revolutionary hull. The M80 Stiletto initiative is part of OFT's Wolf PAC Distributed Operations Experiment, conducted in association with USSOCOM, to explore command and control of geographically dispersed, but networked, autonomous and semi-autonomous military forces. This new concept of operations by the Department of Defense is in response to diffuse threats that are perceived as emerging in the future.
