Singapore Dignitary Visits Innovative US Navy Ship

Deputy Prime Minister Teo Chee Hean visited USS Freedom, July 12, while the ship was moored at Changi Naval Base. Mr. Teo, a former Republic of Singapore Chief of Navy, visited the U.S. Navy's first-of-class littoral combat ship as she prepares to participate in Cooperation Afloat Readiness and Training (CARAT) Singapore next week - an annual bilateral exercise with the Republic of Singapore Navy in its 19th year. Mr. Teo also serves as Singapore's Coordinating Minister for National Security and Minister for Home Affairs.

Freedom Sets Sail for CARAT Malaysia 2013

The Navy's first littoral combat ship, USS Freedom (LCS 1), departed Changi Naval Base June 11 to participate in Cooperation Afloat Readiness and Training (CARAT) Malaysia 2013. CARAT Malaysia is among the key maritime exercises and exchanges Freedom will conduct with regional navies and U.S. 7th Fleet units while deployed to Southeast Asia. In May, Freedom participated in the International Maritime Defense Exhibition (IMDEX) and the Republic of Singapore Navy's Western Pacific Multilateral Sea Exercise (WMSX).

Navy's First Littoral Combat Ship, 'USS Freedom' (LCS1) visits Pearl Harbor en route to Far East deployment. The ultra- modern U.S. Navy ship, bearing a four-color camouflage combination of flat black, haze gray, haze white and ocean gray, arrived at Pearl Harbor after departing her homeport of San Diego to deploy to the Asia-Pacific region. Following a brief port visit, USS Freedom will deploy to Southeast Asia and Singapore for approximately eight months.
