National Maritime Museum Cornwall (NMMC) has appointed Jonathan Griffin
as the new Director.
He has held a number of commercial senior management roles during his career including: Marketing Services Director for the British Tourist Authority
(BTA) and the English Tourist Board, Marketing Director of English Heritage
and Commercial Manager of London Zoo and Whipsnade Park.
For the past four years, he has been based in London working on the country’s public presentation overseas. As Director of the Britain Abroad Task Force he drew on his marketing background to help develop and co-ordinate a strategy for the public-facing work of the Foreign and Commonwealth Office, British Trade International, the British Council, Visit Britain and other public and private sector partners working overseas. He was also, until recently, the Chairman of the Cultural Heritage & Tourism Sector Group, a government initiative to promote the export of professional services.
Jonathan joins the Museum on 15 September 2003.
Peter Cowling, standing-down as Director of the Museum, after five years, says: “Jonathan’s wealth of experience and knowledge makes him highly suitable for the role. I know the Museum will continue to grow with his guidance and leadership and I look forward to following its successful progress for years to come.
Peter officially leaves the Museum on 26 September and will be launching his own consultancy business concentrating on new projects within the South West.
