Dry Bulk Carrier Newbuilding Orders Surge
Dry bulk carrier newbuilding orders predominate among the contracts reported in the latest issue of the Clarkson Hellas S&P Weekly Bulletin. One order is reported by Clarkson Hellas in the larger dry sizes this week, with Foremost Maritime contracting two firm 180,000 DWT Capesize at Beihai Shipyard. Delivery of the first vessel is due in the later part of 2015, with the second due in the final quarter of 2016.

Clarkson Hellas understand that Golden Union have declared options for three further 81,200 DWT Kamsarmax at AVIC Weihai Shipyard for deliveries throughout 2016 and 2017 to add to their existing two units currently under construction. Clients of Sealink Navigation have contracted two firm 63,000 DWT Ultramax with Imabari Shipbuilding in Japan for deliveries in 2016 for the first unit and in 2017 for the second.

Latest Global Ocean Trade Shipbuilding Orders
Clarkson Hellas notes that Oldendorff Carriers have declared their options for six 64,000 DWT Ultramax at Qingshan Shipyard and one 94,000 DWT self-unloader at Jiangsu New YZJ. Pricing was not disclosed, but delivery is reported to be from 4Q in 2016 for the Ultramax and due in 2Q 2015 for the self-unloader. A relatively active past week in the dry bulk newbuilding market is noted by Clarkson Hellas in their S&P Weekly Bulletin. Oldendorff Carriers have contracted two firm plus two option 208,000 DWT Newcastlemax at Hantong Shipyard, with delivery of all four vessels in 2016. Oldendorff have also declared one further option at Jiangsu New Yangzijiang and two options at Taizhou CATIC all for 208,000 DWT Newcastlemax and delivering in 2016.
Diana Shipping, Clearlake Extend Charter
Diana Shipping Inc., a global shipping company specializing in the ownership of dry bulk vessels, today announced that it has agreed to extend the present time charter contract with Clearlake Shipping Pte. Ltd., Singapore, for one of its Kamsarmax dry bulk vessels, the m/v Myrsini. The gross charter rate will remain $15,500 (USD) per day, minus a 4.75% commission paid to third parties, for a period of up to minimum February 15, 2015 to maximum May 10, 2015.

Container ship newbuildings figure most active in the latest weekly news from Clarkson Hellas, with the majority of orders placed with China and Korea shipbuilders. Clients of Diana Shipping reports Clarkson Hellas in its Weekly Bulletin have announced a further order for one 82,000 DWT Kamsarmax at Sinopacific’s Dayang facility. Based on the Sinopacific MHI 82 design, the vessel is planned for delivery in the second quarter of 2016.

New Dry Bulk Ship Orders Take Scorpio to 8-Million DWT Level

Scorpio Bulkers Inc. has contracted and agreed to purchase 28 Ultramax, 23 Kamsarmax and 23 Capesize newbuilding dry bulk vessels to be delivered starting from the second quarter of 2014 from shipyards in Japan, Korea, China and Romania. Another week of ordering across the sizes in the dry bulk market, say Clarkson Hellas in their latest S+P Weekly Bulletin, with orders to report from Ultramax up to Capesizes vessels. Beihai are understood to have taken an order for one firm plus one option 250,000 DWT VLOC from Sincere Navigation Corporation Enterprises with delivery of the firm vessel in 2016. Beihai have also signed one firm plus one option 180,000 DWT Capesize from Bao-Island Enterprises for 2016 delivery for the firm unit.
