Dubai to Expand LNG Terminal
The UAE is planning to expand the capacity of a liquefied natural gas (LNG) terminal in Dubai to help meet rising demand for electricity and water, the energy minister Suhail Al Mazrouei said.
Additional capacity is being added to a 3 million tonne LNG storage facility in Jebel Ali, Dubai to cater to the UAE’s growing energy demands and diversification targets, he said.
“Dubai will announce [it] once they land on the capacity … but definitely it’s an upgrade from the existing 3 million tonnes,” he said.
The Minister declined to comment on details, including the size of the additional capacity, when it would be completed, and whether it would be onshore or offshore.
LNG is gas cooled to a liquid to be transported by ships. The UAE already has plans to build an LNG import facility at the port city of Fujairah with a capacity of 9 million tonnes per year.
