Suezmax Newbuilds Feature MAN Engines with EGR
Hyundai’s Ship Building Division (HHI-SBD) has finalized a contract for two Suezmax tankers for Turkish shipowner, Ditas Shipping. The 158,000-cubic-meter crude-oil tankers will each be powered by individual MAN B&W 6G70ME-C9.5 two-stroke main-engines that feature integrated Exhaust Gas Recirculation (EGR) systems. UK Shipping Sector Risks Sinking Fortunes if Brexit Prevails
If Britain votes to leave the European Union, the country's shipping sector faces years of disruption as trade agreements get reworked and currency volatility leads to higher costs at a time when the industry is battling its worst global downturn. US Trade Deficit Widens, but Exports on the Rise
The U.S. trade deficit widened more than expected in February as a rebound in exports was offset by an increase in imports, the latest indication that economic growth remained weak in the first quarter. Stena Orders Ro-pax Newbuilds from China
Stena RoRo, a subsidiary of the Swedish ship owner Stena AB, and AVIC International Ship Development (China) Co. Ltd. have signed a contract, subject to board approval, for four ro-pax ferry newbuilds, including option for another four. These will be some of the first ro-pax ferries to be built in China for a western owner. Deltamarin Group will deliver an engineering, procurement, construction and management (EPCM) package for the new vessels, to be constructed at AVIC Weihai Shipyard.
Pioneering Container Feeder Vessel Designs
The Danish naval architect company KNUD E. HANSEN has recently been developing a number of container feeder vessel designs. Each of the designs presents a series of innovations as part of a solution tailored to specific requirements. The first in the series of three designs relates to a 2000 TEU vessel that was conceived of to specialise in calling at small, narrow, up-river ports, for example the Port of Bangkok, Thailand.
Keel Laid for Carnival’s New Cruise Ship
A keel laying ceremony for Carnival Cruise Line’s new vessel took place today at Fincantieri’s Marghera shipyard. The new cruise ship will go to sea in 2018. She will be about 133,500 gross tons, carry almost 6,500 people (guests and crew), and will be realized on the basis of the project of the twin vessel Vista, the largest ship which Fincantieri has ever built, due to delivery at the end of the month in Monfalcone.
