Paris MOU's Vessel Inspection Data Now Available Online
A newly introduced statistical feature on the Paris MoU website, parismou.org, grants access to the region’s vessel inspection results. “It is important we communicate about the results of our efforts to prevent sub standard shipping,” said Richard W.J. Schiferli, Secretary General of the Secretariat of Paris MoU. The new statistical feature shows the results of validated inspections within the Paris MoU region, with the option to present them in a customized way.
Mississippi River Basin Gets a Grade of D+
The Mississippi River basin has gotten a report card from a group that monitors watershed health and economic impact — and the grade is D+. The organization, America's Watershed Initiative, cited the poor condition of infrastructure such as locks and dams, and a lack of funding that could lead to water security issues. The Mississippi River watershed is the fourth-largest in the world, according to the group. It is made up of five river basins that flow across 31 states.
FDNY Boat Named for Firefighter Lost on 9/11
Construction of FDNY’s newest fireboat, William M. Feehan, has been completed by shipbuilder MetalCraft Marine Incorporated, and is slated for delivery and christening in the coming weeks. The name of the new boat honors veteran firefighter William Feehan, who at 71 was the oldest of 343 firefighters to pass away in the line of duty on September 11, 2001. The vessel’s nameplate, displayed prominently alongside the cabin, is milled from an I-beam lifted from the rubble of the World Trade Center.
