Cargo Loading Suspended at US West Coast Ports
Shippers suspend weekend cargo loading at U.S. Cargo freighter loading and unloading operations will be suspended at U.S. West Coast Ports this weekend due to continuing chronic slowdowns that shippers and terminal operators have blamed on the dockworkers' union, the companies' representative said on Friday. However, the Pacific Maritime Association said terminal yard, rail and gate operations at the ports, which handle nearly half of U.S.
New Wastewater Treatment for Queen Mary 2
Cunard’s Queen Mary 2 will be fitted with a Wärtsilä advanced wastewater treatment system, enabling the cruise ship to comply with the IMO’s requirements concerning the prevention of pollution from ships. The contract, awarded by Cunard Line during the third quarter of2014, will see the installation of two Wärtsilä’s Hamworthy Membrane BioReactor (MBR) systems to replace existing onboard solutions which are now due for replacement.
First LNG Bunkering of OSV in North America
Harvey Gulf International Marine, LLC reported that its dual fuel offshore support vessel (OSV) M/V Harvey Energy has today bunkered LNG as a marine fuel. The news makes Harvey Gulf the first North American owner/operator of a dual fuel OSV to bunker LNG as a marine fuel, as well as the first to complete a truck to vessel transfer of LNG. The bunkering took place at a shore-based terminal owned by a subsidiary of Martin Midstream Partners L.P. in Pascagoula, Miss.
HII Wins Aircraft Carrier Advanced Planning Contract
Huntington Ingalls Industries (HII) was awarded a $224 million modification to an existing contract for advanced planning of the refueling and complex overhaul (RCOH) of the aircraft carrier USS George Washington (CVN 73). Brunswick GA's IAP Moves 5 Millionth Vehicle
International Auto Processing at the Port of Brunswick, Georgia, handled it's five millionth vehicle, Georgia Ports Authority announced yesterday. The five millionth vehicle was a silver Hyundai Genesis that arrived on the Wallenius Wilhelmsen vessel Isolde. "In 2014, we handled more than 450,000 vehicles," said Robert Miller, president and CEO of International Auto Processing. Imports arrive from Europe, Asia and Mexico. Exports account for about a third of IAP's volume.
DNV GL Opens US Technical Helpdesk
DNV GL has opened the American hub of its technical helpdesk in Houston, the organization announced today. DNV GL, a Norway-based international classification society, now has 400 technical experts worldwide providing answers to customer questions across Europe, Asian, and American time zones. “Our classification customers tell us they want timely, authoritative and insightful answers to technical questions," said Jan Solum, who leads the new Technical Helpdesk Team in Houston.
MTNW Discontinues Sale of LCI-80 Line Control Display
MTNW has discontinued the sale its LCI-80 Line Control Display, the company announced yesterday. Technical support and service will continue to be available for in-service equipment. The LCI-80 will be replaced by the LCI-80x Rugged Programmable Controller. Designed as a replacement for panel meters and analog gauges in rotational sensor applications, the LCI-80 displayed line speed and payout parameters on an electroluminescent (EL) display.
