U.S. Shipbuilding: ESG Nabs Two Z-Drive Tug Contracts
Eastern Shipbuilding (ESG) said that Suderman & Young Towing Company and Bay Houston Towing Company each exercised one additional Z-Drive Tug to be built at ESG. This brings the total to six of the new Robert Allan, Ltd. Z-Tech 2400 Class Terminal & Escort Tugs built at ESG's Panama City, FL facilities. G&H will provide the onsite representation for both owners as the owner's agent during the construction and delivery phases of the contracts.

New Research Vessel Delivered on the Great Lakes
The new oceanographic research and fisheries assessment vessel, Arcticus, completed her sea trials and was delivered to the U.S. Geological Survey's Great Lakes Science Center on October 17. The Arcticus, designed by JMS Naval Architects (JMS) and constructed at Burger Boat Company, replaces the R/V Grayling and becomes the newest member of a five-vessel fleet owned and operated by the Great Lakes Science Center in Ann Arbor, Michigan.
Boater Rescued from Sailboat Blaze
The U.S. Coast Guard assisted with the rescue of a boater Monday after the man's 33-foot sailboat caught fire five miles west of Windmill Point in the Chesapeake Bay. Watchstanders at Coast Guard Sector Hampton Roads received a VHF-FM channel 16 broadcast from Brown at approximately 10:40 a.m., stating his sailboat was on fire. Watchstanders were unable to maintain communications with Brown after the initial broadcast.

Virtual AIS Beacons Employed in MH370 Search
Vesper Marine, a manufacturer of marine safety products and virtual Aids to Navigation (ATON), announced that its Virtual AIS Beacons are employed in the search for lost Malaysian airliner MH370 in the southern Indian Ocean.
