Raytheon Anschütz Innovations to Debut at SMM
German navigation system manufacturer Raytheon Anschütz announced the launch of navigation system innovations as well as improvements to existing technologies for this year’s SMM. The world’s first IMO-certified Integrated Navigation System (INS), Synapsis Intelligent Bridge Control, will take the center stage at the Raytheon Anschütz booth. About two years after product launch, more than 100 Synapsis systems have been contracted and more than half of them are already in operation.

MARAD, ABS Sign MOA for NDRF Class and Survey
The U.S. Department of Transportation’s Maritime Administration (MARAD) announced it has signed a new Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) with the American Bureau of Shipping (ABS), establishing policies and procedures for the survey and classification of MARAD’s National Defense Reserve Fleet (NDRF). The MOA establishes a charter that improves the timelines, efficiency and cost effectiveness for surveys and updates terminology, references and regulations.

Tall Ship Cutter Eagle to Visit Rockland
The U.S. Coast Guard Cutter Eagle is scheduled to arrive in Rockland, Maine, Friday, at 3 p.m. as part of its 2014 cadet summer training deployment. The Eagle's visit to Rockland is to celebrate the Maine Lobster Festival. The Eagle will be open for free public tours Saturday, Aug. 2, from 1 p.m. to 7:30 p.m., and Sunday, Aug. 3, from 10 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. At 295 feet in length, the Eagle is the largest tall ship flying the stars and stripes and the only active square-rigger in U.S.

Asia-N.Europe Container Freight Rates Jump 21%
Shipping freight rates for transporting containers from ports in Asia to Northern Europe jumped 21 percent to $1,455 per 20-foot container (TEU) in the week ended on Friday, a source with access to data from the Shanghai Containerized Freight Index told Reuters. It was the first time rates on the world's busiest route rose since July 4, when they jumped 28 percent. Container freight rates have so far increased in 10 weeks this year but fallen in 21 weeks.
