Cat Power Solution for Teekay Offshore
Caterpillar Marine announced that Cat power and propulsion offerings have been selected to provide complete propulsion solutions for four ocean-going towing vessels designed by Ulstein Design and Solutions. Each vessel will have four 9 M 32 C propulsion engines, rated at 4,500 bkW at 600 rpm. Also onboard each vessel will be three Cat C32 auxiliary generator sets rated at 940 ekW at 1,800 rpm as well as one Cat C9 generator set to provide emergency power.

TT Club Calls for Increased Port Safety
In a speech given to the Trans Middle East Conference in Qatar in May, Andrew Kemp, Regional Director EMEA of the freight transport insurance specialist TT Club, called for operators to do more to minimize the causes of incidents resulting in bodily injury, cargo and property damage. Analysis of extensive TT Club data has shown that over 80% of insurance claims related to cargo handling at ports and terminals are the result of operational shortcomings or poor equipment maintenance.

Kappel Propellers for Newbuild Bulk Carriers
Lemissoler Navigation Co. Ltd., the Cyprus-based owner and operator, has selected the MAN Alpha Kappel propeller design for a new series of 8 × 58,500 DWT bulk carriers planned for delivery during 2015 and 2016. The 6.8-meter, slow-running, four-bladed Kappel fixed-pitch propellers will be tailored to the SDARI-designed bulk carriers and a drivetrain powered by an MAN B&W 5S60ME-C engine, economy-rated at 8,050 kW and 89 r/min.
Report: 40ft High Cubes Dominate the Market
High cube 40-foot containers are stealing a march on traditional 40-foot equipment and by the end of 2013 represented just short of 50% of the maritime container fleet, according to Drewry’s recently published Container Census report.
