Kvichak to Build 72’ Pilot Boat
Kvichak Marine Industries was awarded a contract to build a self-righting 72’ all-aluminum pilot boat, Astoria, for the Columbia River Bar Pilots (CRBP) of Astoria, OR. The continued success and reliability of the Columbia and Chinook lead CRBP to once again choose Camarc, Ltd., of the U.K. as the designer and Kvichak Marine as the builder for the Astoria. The pilots operate the vessels over the bar at the mouth of the Columbia River.
Coast Guard Responds to South Louisiana Casualty
The Coast Guard is responding to a report of an allision between a tug pushing a barge and a pipeline near Bayou Perot 30 miles south of New Orleans, Tuesday. Coast Guard Sector New Orleans watchstanders received a report that the 47-foot tug Shanon E. Settoon was pushing a 154-foot oil barge when it allided with a pipeline 6 p.m., Tuesday. All crew members were able to exit the tug; the captain reportedly suffered second to third-degree degree burns.
Aker Solutions Contracted for UK Subsea Field Redevelopment
Aker Solutions secures a NOK 650 million (GBP 70 million) contract with BP to help redevelop one of the largest oil fields in the UK sector. U.S. Beached Tsunami Dock to be Salvaged
Swept away during the Japan tsunami of March 11, 2011, the steel, concrete, & foam dock beached at Olympic National Park, Wash. is to be removed at last. On December 18, 2012, the dock beached along the boundaries of Olympic National Park and NOAA’s Olympic Coast National Marine Sanctuary in Washington state. UK Port Apprentices Get Jobs
PD Ports has announced the creation of 13 full time permanent positions for Teesport based apprentices. The new dock operations roles in both bulks and container related areas of the business will commence at the end of April, after the existing apprenticeship programme completes. The programme took over 18 months of training and is on track to achieve 100% success rate with all 13 apprentices achieving a NVQ Level 2 in Dock Operations.
Washington Governor Makes Weld on State’s Second Ferry
Washington Governor Jay Inslee officially kicked off the construction of M/V Samish, the state’s newest 144-car ferry, by making the first weld on the vessel at Vigor Industrial’s Seattle shipyard Friday. Earlier in the week US Fab, the Vigor company building the ferries, hit a major project milestone on the first vessel, the M/V Tokitae, when the company successfully transferred the 1110-ton superstructure onto the hull.
