Coast Guard, Partner Agencies Work to Recover Fallen Containers
At approximately 1 p.m. Monday (March 4, 2013), the Coast Guard received a report that 22 containers fell off the 91-foot barge Atlantic Trader and into the ocean 18 miles east of Key Biscayne, Fla. Coast Guard Watchstanders at Sector Miami received notification from the Tug Spence that 22 containers on a voyage from Jacksonville, Fla., to Guantanamo Bay, Cuba fell off the barge into the water. Two CMA CGM Vessels for Damen Shiprepair Brest
Damen Shiprepair Brest (France) was contracted for the regular dry docking and special survey for two CMA CGM container vessels: Fort St. Marie and Fort St. Louis. Furthermore, an option for Fort St. Pierre and Fort St. Georges has been discussed. Damen Redelivers Seven Vessels to HamburgSüd
In October 2012 Damen Shiprepair Rotterdam (DSR) won the contract for installing the first Becker Twisted Fin on seven container vessels of the fleet of Hamburg (Germany) based liner shipping company Hamburg Süd. To complete the project in time, the vessels were routed in such a way that they could each be dry-docked for a maximum of 6 days every consecutive week. All ships have now been re-delivered. The first vessel starting the cycle, MV Santa Catharina, was expected the December 30, 2012.

BAE Lays Keel on GLDD Dump Scow
BAE Systems recently held a keel laying ceremony in the construction of the second dump scow for Great Lakes Dredge and Dock Company. It is the final vessel in the contract for two dump scows, which was signed in June 2012. When complete, both vessels will be used to support dredging operations in the United States. Panama Canal Completes Expansion Program Dredging
The Panama Canal Authority (ACP) has completed the dredging to deepen and widen the navigational channels along Culebra Cut as part of the Expansion Program. This marks another important milestone for the Panama Canal expansion. The dredging works started in March 2008, with the drilling by Panama Canal personnel on board of the drill barge Baru. âThis important achievement fills with pride each man and woman that works within the organization,â Panama Canal Administrator Jorge L. Quijano said.

KPI Bridge Oil, a global broker and trader in marine bunkers, marine lubricants and risk management products, has appointed Mr. Araki Takanobu as Senior Bunker Trader. Araki Takanobu has more than 13 years experience in various bunker and cargo trading roles and has previously been working in Japan, Korea and Singapore. Arakialso has a degree from Meiji University in Political Science. Araki Takanobu is Japanese, speaks fluent Korean and is currently living in Singapore.
Two New Si-Tex Navigation Systems
Si-Tex Marine Electronics has added two multifunction navigation systems to its product lineup, providing a wide range of recreational and light commercial vessels with a navigation solution. Both the 7â display SNS-700 and 10.4â display SNS-1100 provide boaters with C-Map Max charting capabilities like programmable anti-grounding, flashing navaids and aerial imagery, along with dual-frequency fishfinding and color radar (when matched with optional Si-Tex MDS-1, MDS-8 or MDS-9 radar scanners).
Cargotec Receives Large Order for MacGregor
Cargotec's MacGregor has received a large order to deliver MacGregor RoRo cargo access equipment for five new 31,600 dwt Container/RoRo (ConRo) vessels from Hyundai Mipo Dockyard in South Korea.
ClassNK Approves Minimal Ballast Water VLCC Design
Leading classification society ClassNK announced that it has granted AIP (Approval in Principle) to the MIBS (Minimal Ballast Water Ship) VLCC design developed by Namura Shipbuilding Co., Ltd. in cooperation with the Shipbuilding Research Centre of Japan. Although the IMOâs Ballast Water Management Convention has yet to enter into force, installation of ballast water treatment systems are already presenting owners with both financial and technical challenges.

POSH Terasea Forms Worldâs Largest and Youngest Fleet
PACC Offshore Services Holdings (POSH), through its EPIC division, has announced the formation of a joint venture company POSH Terasea Pte Ltd with Terasea Pte Ltd (Terasea). POSH will contribute to the JV a fleet of five specialized Anchor Handlers (12000BHP to 13500BHP) while Terasea contributes four units of newbuilding modern deepwater 16000BHP Anchor Handlers, to be delivered successively over the next 11 months.
MOL Introduces Onboard New Seafarer Training Program
Mitsui O.S.K. Lines, Ltd. (MOL; President: Koichi Muto) has announced that the company has built additional training facilities and cabins on CADET training vessels and started a new onboard intensive training program, called Cadet Actual Deployment for Education with Tutorial (CADET Training).
