Emerald Ace World’s First Hybrid Car Carrier

CMA CGM MARCO POLO
CMA CGM Group said that the CMA CGM Marco Polo, the world’s largest containership, began its first voyage on Wednesday, November 7, in Ningbo, China. The ship is a 16,000 TEU vessel, owned by CMA CGM, sailing under the UK flag. Built by DSME (Daewoo Shipbuilding and Marine Engineering) in South Korea, the ship displays exceptional dimensions at 396 x 54m, with a draft of 16m. CMA CGM Marco Polo is the first of a series of three 16,000 TEU vessels, will to be named after great explorers.
Almi Sky
Almi Sky was built for Almi Tankers S.A. by Daewoo Shipbuilding & Marine Engineering, designed as double skinned construction in way of cargo tanks and arranged with six pairs of cargo tanks and a pair of slop tanks. The vessel has a continuous upper deck with no forecastle, a raked stem with a bulbous bow, a transom with open water type stern frame, a semi-balanced rudder and a fixed pitch propeller directly driven by slow speed diesel engine.
R/V Sikuliaq
The 3,800-ton Alaska Region Research Vessel (ARRV) R/V Sikuliaq was launched on Oct. 13, 2012, at Marinette Marine in Marinette, Wis. Sikuliaq (pronounced see-KOO-lee-ack) will be operated by the University of Alaska Fairbanks (UAF) School of Fisheries and Ocean Sciences for the National Science Foundation as part of the University-National Oceanographic Laboratory System (UNOLS) fleet. The 261-foot global class ice-capable research vessel R/V Sikuliaq was designed by Glosten Associates.

Baltic Ace Totem-VDR Capsule Recovered
The capsule of the Car Carrier Baltic Ace was recovered on Dec. 22nd, more than two weeks after the ship sank in the North Sea west of Rotterdam. Rough weather and debris prevented the divers from recovering the capsule earlier. Opening the capsule was performed under the supervision of Totem Plus, the VDR maker. The data in the capsule was found intact by Totem Plus technician, and was given to authorities for proper analysis of the tragic incident.

Apple Founder's Megayacht Free to Leave
The court order to have the megayacht arrested in the Port of Amsterdam had been obtained earlier by the designer Philippe Stark. The vessel, which reportedly cost over 100 million euros ($130 million) to build, was impounded after Starck claimed that Jobs' estate still owed him three million euros for his contribution to its design, reports AFP. China Shipbuilder Wins Capesize Bulker Contracts
Shanghai Waigaoqiao Shipbuilding, a CSSC-affiliated shipyard, contracted to build two180,000 dwt bulk ships. The contract with undisclosed European owners has the option for a further four vessels to be delivered if required. The vessels will adopt Waigaoqiao’s newly developed sixth generation design for 180,000dwt capesizes which will reduce oil consumption by 20% and improve transport capacity by 30% compared to its previous design.
