GE Renews Royal Canadian Navy Contract
GE Marine renewed a contract with Public Works and Government Services Canada to provide maintenance and logistics support services. The three-year contract renewal covers the Royal Canadian Navy’s (RCN) fleet of LM2500 aeroderivative gas turbines that power Halifax-class patrol frigates. The original five-year contract with Public Works and Government Services Canada began in 2001, and was renewed in 2006 for an additional five years.
Pirates Disrupted by USS Pinckney
Guided-missile destroyer USS Pinckney (DDG 91), assigned to Combined Task Force (CTF) 151, disrupted a group of suspected pirates close to the Internationally Recommended Transit Corridor (IRTC), south of Yemen, Dec. 19. The Merchant Shipping Industry Best Management Practices, Version 4 (BMPv4) encourages merchant vessels to register with the United Kingdom Maritime Trade Organization (UKMTO) while transiting areas known to be high risk for piracy.

Björn Ingemanson, 53, has been appointed new President of Volvo Penta. Ingemanson is currently President of Volvo Trucks’ International Division and will assume his new position on April 1, 2012, when he will succeed the current President Göran Gummeson, who will retire next year. Viking River Cruises Orders Two Cruise Ships
STX France SA received an order to build two luxury cruise ships from Viking Ocean Cruises, an affiliate of Viking River Cruises. The vessels will be delivered in spring 2014 and spring 2015, respectively, and will be part of Viking's new Ocean Cruise brand. An option for a third ship is being considered. The vessels will be operated primarily on the Mediterranean seas and be dedicated mainly to Viking's US, British and Australian customers.

Chesapeake to Build 7th Tug for Vane
Chesapeake Shipbuilding Corp of Salisbury, MD announced today that it has signed a contract with Vane Brothers of Baltimore, MD to build another new ocean going tug. The new contract represents the 7th tug that Chesapeake Shipbuilding will have built for Vane Brothers in just over five years. Construction has already begun. The new tugboat, designated Hull 105, will be nearly identical to the previous six tugboats built for Vane Brothers.
Metal Trades Completes Navy Fuel Barge
Metal Trades, Inc. announced the completion of two double hull Fuel Barges for the U.S. Navy as a sub-contractor to Maybank Industries. The ABS classed 7,000 barrel barges are designed to carry diesel and JP-5 fuel in four cargo tanks within a 180 foot long by 44 foot wide hull. These two barges are being delivered to Pacific Naval Facilities. The two barges (YON-332 and YON-333) were designed by Bristol Harbor Group.
