The SCRA-led National Shipbuilding Research Program (NSRP)  announce $2.5 million award funds for new applied research and development projects

The NSRP is a collaboration of American shipyards working together to reduce the cost of building, operating and repairing US Navy ships by developing and applying advanced technology and processes. The projects will be executed through the NSRP Ship Production Panels, a primary program methodology for industry-wide networking, technology transfer and best-practice sharing.

The award supports tactical baseline projects that rapidly implement innovative, cost-reducing technologies or processes. The projects awarded align with NSRP’s strategic priorities and major focus areas as outlined in the program’s Strategic Investment Plan. The awards include improvements to: welding processes, ship design technologies, risk management practices, surface preparation & coating methods, electrical technologies, business processes, information technology systems and planning and production processes.

“We are pleased to announce $2.5 million in new shipbuilding projects as add-ons to our existing NSRP responsibilities,” said SCRA CEO Bill Mahoney. “NSRP has an extraordinary track record of significant cost savings and shipbuilding improvements for both the US Navy and our industry partners. Our model ensures collaboration between our public and private partners, and we look forward to sustained innovation through execution of these recently announced projects.”
