Kvichak Marine’s New Crane
Kvichak Marine Industries, of Seattle, Wash. was a recipient of an American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA) small shipyard grant awarded in August 2009. The grant funded much of the major equipment associated with the Company’s new metal processing facility, Flashmark Tech, which opened earlier this year. Another benefit of this grant is a new crane for their headquarters in Seattle, Wash. The crane is made by North Pacific Crane with a capacity of 35,000 pounds.

GE Gas Turbines on Euro Frigate
GE Marine reports that the first frigate Aquitaine of the Italian-French FREMM program was recently launched at DCNS’ shipyard in Lorient, France. The ship is powered by the GE LM2500+G4 gas turbine-based propulsion system. Aquitaine sea trials were successfully completed in May 2011. Construction continues on the first Italian Navy FREMM Bergamini, with initial start of the LM2500+G4 gas turbine propulsion system expected within the next few months.
