Simrad’s new R3016 12U/6X IMO type-approved radar system aims to deliver a powerful solution in a compact package

The newly launched Simrad R3016 12U/6X IMO SOLAS CAT 3 Radar System has been developed for the commercial shipping market, suited for use aboard CAT 3 SOLAS vessels, workboats, tugs and coastal fishing boats.

The radar solution’s 12-kilowatt X-Band transceiver and 6-foot open array scanner are designed for rugged reliability and low maintenance, its manufacturer said.

Built around a next generation digital processing user interface, the compact R3016 12U/6X IMO SOLAS CAT3 Radar System features enhanced target tracking capabilities, clear target definition and advanced automated tuning controls, Simrad said. The R3016 control unit has an integrated keypad and rotary control dial with direct-access button.

“The new R3016 12U/6X IMO SOLAS CAT 3 Radar System brings together our latest radar and display technology,” explained Jose Herrero, managing director, Simrad Commercial Division.

Simrad said the R3016 Radar System offers simple system design and integration, with easily routed Ethernet cabling and a compact, bulkhead-mounted power supply unit. The R3016 includes a compact control unit with a 1366x768-pixel, high-definition, 15.6-inch diagonal widescreen display. It features a 180mm highly detailed radar plan position indicator (PPI) that allows space for additional vessel data, radar settings and target tracking information. The R3016 control unit incorporates the display, controls and processor in a single integrated system. The control unit conforms to IPX7 water-resistance standards; in addition, the 12U/6X antenna is designed for maximum reliability, driven by a brushless motor, robust mechanical gearbox and a transceiver with a long-life magnetron.
