Swedish cargo transporter Gothia Tanker Alliance has ordered four newbuilding intermediate product/chemical tankers with LNG propulsion. The vessels will be built to a design, developed by FKAB and Furetank, with close to 50 % reduction of CO2 emissions.

Partners of the alliance, Furetank Rederi AB, Rederi AB Älvtank and Thun Tankers BV, have hired Avic Dingheng Shipbuilding Ltd. for the construction of the 16,300 dwt tankers. Scheduled for delivery in 2018/2019, two of these 20,000m3 tankers will be owned by Furetank, and Älvtank and Thun Tankers will own one each.

Featuring the Tier III rules, the vessels will have dual fuel/LNG propulsion including LNG in port consumption, LNG for Inert gas production, installed ballast water cleaning system, ice class 1A and Alternative Propulsion System. The vessels will be commercially managed by Furetank Chartering in the Gothia Tanker Alliance.

“It has been very interesting and developing for Furetank together with FKAB to create a design for future product/chemical tankers. These vessels will be designed to meet all known future demands both from governments, the industry and from our customers,” Lars Höglund, CEO Furetank Rederi AB, said.
