EGCS Ready Notation for MOL Ships
ClassNK issued EGCSR-F (Exhaust Gas Cleaning System Ready Full) notations to nine ships operated by Mitsui O.S.K. Lines, Ltd., meaning that the ship fulfills requirement for SOx scrubber retrofitting. Following discussions on the implementation schedule of MARPOL Annex VI SOX/PM regulations at MEPC70 in October last year, all ships operating outside Emission Control Areas (ECA) will be required to limit sulfur emission levels to under 0.50% from 1 January 2020.

ClassNK Earns EU MRV Accreditation
After undergoing extensive assessments, classification society ClassNK has received accreditation from the UK-based national accreditation body UKAS (United Kingdom Accreditation Service) as an EU MRV verifier, effective as of March 1, 2017. EU MRV is an EU regulation on the monitoring, reporting and verification of carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions from vessels, which first entered into force on July 1, 2015.

Classification society ClassNK has issued Approval in Principle (AIP) for a 7,500 cbm LNG bunkering vessel designed by Hanjin Heavy Industries & Construction Co., Ltd. This design is the result of joint research carried out by Hanjin Heavy Industries & Construction Co., Ltd. and ClassNK to improve the efficiency of LNG bunkering vessels.
