US, Germany World Cup Match Honored with Trade Statistics
In honor of today’s World Cup match between the United States and Germany, a new graphic from the U.S. Census Bureau shows foreign trade statistics for the top five exports and imports between the two nations in 2013. First of 28 New Ships Enters CMA CGM Fleet
CMA CGM Group announced that the maiden voyage of the CMA CGM Danube will begin on June 30 in China. The 9,400 TEU vessel is the first of a series of 28 ships from 9,400-10,900 TEU which will be delivered through the third quarter of 2016. Sailing under the Malta flag and chartered bareboat to CIMC, it is the first ship of this class built at the Chinese construction site DSIC (Dalian PRC) and delivered to the group.

MCTAYS Invests $1.7m in Facility Upgrade
A shipbuilder has invested more than $1.7million (£1million) at its headquarters, including upgrading a slipway which is now capable of accommodating vessels up to 2,000 metric tons. US Navy Ship En Route to Receive Syrian Chemical Weapons
U.S. motor vessel Cape Ray departed Rota, Spain, this morning en route to the port of Gioia Tauro, Italy, where the ship will receive declared Syrian chemical weapons transferred from the Danish vessel Ark Futura, the U.S. Navy announced today in a press release. In a statement announcing the departure, Pentagon Press Secretary Navy Rear Adm. John Kirby said the transit to Italy is expected to take several days.

Midshipman Named Northrop Grumman Navigator of the Year
Northrop Grumman Corporation recently presented the 2014 Elmer A. Sperry Junior Navigator of the Year Award for 2014 to Midshipman Robert Francisco Yerkes-Medina in ceremonies at the U.S. Naval Academy. The award recognizes a member of the graduating class who has demonstrated outstanding navigation skills and knowledge during his or her four years at the academy and is part of a naval support tradition at Northrop Grumman. Fairmount Tows Jack-up Rig to Singapore
Tug Fairmount Summit has towed jack-up rig West Ariel safely from Vung Tau, Vietnam, to Singapore. The towage over a distance of 1,305 miles was performed in seven days with an average speed of 4 knots. The West Ariel, a KFels B class independent leg cantilever jack-up rig, was built in 2008 by Keppels Fels, Singapore and is owned by UK based Seadrill Ltd. The 73 meters long, 10,352 GT rig can drill up to 9,144 meters in depth. For this job the Fairmount Summit was mobilized from Singapore.

After the arrival of the second set of rolling gates, the Panama Canal Expansion keeps moving forward reaching a new milestone at the Pacific side with the pouring of more than two million cubic meters of concrete, the Panama Canal Authority (ACP) reported. Dacon Rescue Scoop Gains Momentum in Offshore Wind
Dacon announced it has again been contracted to deliver its Dacon Rescue Scoop to a service vessel in the offshore wind industry. This is the fifth vessel in a series of carbon fiber SWATH designs that Odfjell Wind AS are building at Danish Yachts, all of which have been equipped with the MOB rescue system, Dacon said. These systems have traditionally been in use on standby vessels that provide rescue capability to oil and gas rigs but are now gaining momentum in the offshore wind industry.

Bourbon Takes Delivery of its 500th Vessel
Bourbon celebrates delivery of the 500th vessel, placing the group at the head of the world's largest fleet of vessels operated (vessels owned or on bareboat charter) for the offshore marine services industry. Bourbon announced the entry into service of its 500th vessel - the Bourbon Evolution 806, the sixth vessel of the first series of vessels for inspection, maintenance and repair (IMR) of subsea infrastructure for the offshore industry.

Brown Appointed COO at Lloyd’s Register
in Lloyd’s Register announced the appointment of Nick Brown, previously Director Business Development & Innovation, as the group’s new Marine Chief Operating Officer. Reporting to Marine Director Tom Boardley, Nick will be responsible for LR’s four global operating regions – Asia, Americas, Northern Europe and Southern Europe. David Barrow becomes Regional Marine Manager (RMM) for a new Northern Europe region while Apostolos Poulovassilis is RMM for Southern Europe, Middle East and Africa.

Climate Change Could Cost Europe $260 Billion
If no further action is taken and global temperature increases by 3.5°C, climate damages in the EU could amount to at least $260 billion (€190 billion), a net welfare loss of 1.8% of its current GDP. Several weather-related extremes could roughly double their average frequency. As a consequence, heat-related deaths could reach about 200 000, the cost of river flood damages could exceed $13.6 billion (€10 billion) and 8,000 km2 of forest could burn in southern Europe.
