As many as 20 migrants drown, but five are rescued when a boat carrying migrants sinks near Tunisia
The national guard reported on Wednesday that the Tunisian Coast Guard had recovered the bodies 20 African migrants after their boat sank just off the coast. This is the second drowning of migrants in one week.
The Tunisian coast guard recovered nine bodies last Thursday. Six others remain missing, after their boat capsized while sailing to Europe.
The National Guard said that the coast guard rescued five other people who were on the boat on Wednesday and search operations are underway for those still missing.
The boat capsized off the coast of Sfax, a popular departure point for African migrants.
Tunisia has been hit by an unprecedented migration crisis. It is now the main departure point from Africa for Tunisians as well as people seeking to live better in Europe.
