Svitzer Appoints Americas MD
Maersk's towage operator arm Svitzer announced on Thursday it has appointed Arjen Van Dijk as its new Regional Managing Director (MD) for the Americas region, effective February 1, 2020.Van Dijk is taking over from Marc Niederer, who has decided to step down due to personal reasons and is currently considering various options for his future role, the company said.Van Dijk joined Svitzer in July 2019 as regional CCO and is now advancing to Regional MD.
Svitzer Mercurius Joins Southampton Fleet
Svitzer has announced the purchase of the Dutch tugboat Mercurius, which has been renamed to Svitzer Mercurius and reflagged to the UK.The tug will be deployed in the Port of Southampton, where the tug increases the company’s fleet in Southampton to six vessels with a collective bollard pull of 415 tons.Built by Damen in 2014, the ASD 3212 tugboat has a strong bollard pull of 82 tons and a top speed of 14 knots, powered by two main and two auxiliary engines supplied by Caterpillar.
New Concept Ice Class Tugs for Svitzer
Med Marine has recently signed a newbuilding contract with Danish operator, Svitzer for two icebreaking tugboats.The design is new in Med Marine’s portfolio and comes with some great features for extreme climate conditions.TundRA 3000 is a concept design by Canadian designer Robert Allan Ltd. As the designer has experience in working with different companies operating in harsh winter conditions, TundRA was a great fit for Svitzer’s North European fleet.
Turkish Yard to Build New Ice Class Tug Design
Med Marine based in Istanbul signed a newbuilding contract with Danish operator, Svitzer for two icebreaking tugboats. Svitzer Orders Two Icebreaking Tugs
Global towage operator Svitzer said it has signed a new deal with Turkish shipbuilder Med Marine for two new 30-meter ice class tugs expected to be delivered in the fourth quarter of 2020 and first quarter of 2021. The vessels will join Svitzer’s 30-strong fleet of towage vessels in Scandinavia and Germany The tugs have been custom designed to fit Svitzer’s requirements across its Scandinavian operations.

Svitzer Orders Escort Tug from Sanmar
Svitzer has signed a contract with Sanmar to purchase a newbuild 80 tbp ASD escort tug for Southampton, U.K., strengthening its fleet to meet current and future customer requirements and reemphasizing its commitment to the port of Southampton.
