Baltica Line Raises Frequency
Baltica Line has risen the frequency of its Saint Petersburg service . By deploying a third vessel it is possible to offer a sailing from Rotterdam every five days instead of 10.
Replacement Alderman for Port
Mr. Peter van Dijk will
temporarily replace Mr. Hans Simons
as Alderman for the Port and Economic Affairs. The latter has been seriously ill for some time. So far Van Dijk was leader of the social democrat party in the municipal council.
Morcon Intends To Take Over Uniport
Morcon intends to take over Uniport container terminal. The latter is not considered part of the core business of its present owner Kühne & Nagel anymore. Morcon already owns a distribution terminal in Moerdijk and three empty depots and a container terminal in Rotterdam. Last year this terminal handled 115,000 containers. Uniport expects to handle 200,000 containers in 2000. Hans Vervat, owner of Morcon, considers the take over a good opportunity to take advantage of the ongoing growth of container traffic.
New Service For Morocco
From May on, International Maritime Transport Corporation from Casablanca will offer a sailing from Rotterdam every two weeks.
New Ops Director At Delta Terminal
Mr. Jan Gelderland
is appointed operational director of the ECT Delta terminals. Gelderland has been working for 22 years with Sea-Land. The last 10 years he was general manager responsible for SL operations in Central and Western Europe. He was also involved in the preparations for and starting up of the Delta Sea-Land terminal in Rotterdam. Gelderland can be described as a "hands on manager."
Maersk Delta Chooses Cargo Card
Maersk Delta is going to use the Cargo Card as an overall multi purpose identification at its Maasvlakte terminal. Not just the truck drivers but also the personnel of the terminal will have to use this ID. Aim of Maersk Delta is to guide and direct a truck driver on his route on the terminal without any on site assistance of terminal personnel.
Fruit on the Rhine?
Fruit stevedoring and forwarding company Seabrex is studying the possibility of using barges to transport (containerized) fruit to Germany. In the first phase reefer containers will be shuttled by barge from the Delta terminals to the Seabrex terminals in the Fruitport area in the eastern part of the port.
