The FAST '99 Conference is scheduled to be held at the new Bell Harbor International Conference Center located
on Pier 66 in the heart of Elliott Bay
in Seattle, from August 31 to September 2, 1999, bringing together owners, builders, designers, suppliers, service providers, and policy makers from around the world to Seattle.
The purpose of the FAST '99 Conference is to foster dialogue among the many different communities involved in the design, construction and operation of high-speed marine craft. Every aspect of such craft will be examined and discussed at FAST '99. The program will attract an international mix of academics, operators, researchers, defense experts, and economists. The whole event is aimed at bringing academia, operations, government, and industry together in an environment of cooperation and communication that will be mutually beneficial to all involved.
The three day exhibition will be representative of the international high speed marine craft industry. Products and services relevant to the high speed maritime industry from throughout the world will be on display, from vessel design through construction and materials to engines, electronics
and deck equipment. All the makings of a complete high-speed vessel, including government services, financiers and classification societies, will be showcased at FAST '99.
Four major tracks are envisioned for FAST '99. Papers are invited relating to any of the topics below. Additional topics not listed are also welcome.
Track 1 - Theoretical Track: Theoretical Hydrodynamics, Structural Materials & Response Propulsors
Track 2 - Design Track: Monohull Naval Architecture, Catamaran Naval Architecture, SES Naval Architecture, WIG Naval Architecture, SWAS Naval Architecture
Track 3 - Operations Track: Operational Considerations, Regulatory Considerations,
Track 4 - Aviation Track: Lessons to be learned from the aviation industry, Economics Regulation Design and Manufacturing Processes, etc.
As part of the Fifth International Conference on Fast Seas Transportation, a Student Paper Competition will be held. Accordingly, Students of Naval Architecture and/or Marine Engineering are invited to submit papers relating to the design construction and operation of High Speed Craft.
It is not intended these papers be presented at the conference. However the winning papers will be published as part of the conference proceedings. Additionally, it is intended to hold a presentation to the winners in conjunction with the conference closing ceremonies.
Prizes will be awarded as follows:
1st Prize: Free registration at the conference, a cash award of $500 and $2,000 towards the cost of attendance at the conference
2nd Prize: Free registration at the conference and a cash award of $500
