Tundra MDS Now ISO/PAS 28007 Accredited

Maritime Activity Reports, Inc.

March 13, 2014

Tundra Maritime Defense Services (MDS), the maritime division of Tundra Group, announce that it has now been formally awarded full certification and accreditation for ISO 28000 including ISO/PAS 28007:2012 (Guidelines for Private Maritime Security Companies), following Lloyd’s Register Quality Assurance (LRQA) being appointed as a ‘Certifying Body’ (CB) against ISO/PAS 28007 by the UK Accreditation Service (UKAS). This new accreditation ensures that Tundra MDS maintains the highest possible level of ISO/PAS 28007 certification, a level that the company said is shared by just a handful of PMSCs.

ISO/PAS 28007 gives established guidelines to private maritime security companies (PMSC) that supply privately contracted armed security personnel (PCASP) on board ships. Certification to these standards demonstrates to the international community that Tundra MDS can legally, safely and effectively guard seafarers, their vessels and cargo.

Lee Rimmer, Tundra MDS’s Managing Director, commented, “This new accreditation demonstrates to the industry that we are able to deliver the highest quality of service, to exacting standards, whilst using the management functions of the International Standard to increase performance, reduce risk and make savings that we can pass onto our clients. We have always been clear in our vision of where we want to be placed in the market, and that is to provide the best possible service at the best possible price. For several years we have believed we are the best, and this accreditation provides independent validation of that belief; it makes us extremely proud of our achievements and is another step towards Tundra MDS becoming the industry leader.”

LRQA is one of three certification bodies that participated in the United Kingdom Accreditation Service (UKAS) pilot scheme. UKAS was appointed to assess certification companies offering assessment to ISO/PAS 28007, verifying that it uses competent assessors with the correct qualifications and that rigorous, tested auditing processes are being followed. This is key in ensuring the confidence of the shipping market.
