SNAME, INA of India Sign Agreement

At a meeting during the World Maritime Technology Conference (WMTC) in Mumbai, India, a delegation of the Society of Naval Architects and Marine Engineers (SNAME) members including Society President Keith Michel, Executive Director Kimball, Naresh Maniar, Bruce Hutchison and Todd Grove met with members of the Institute of Naval Architects of India (INAI) at the offices of Bharati Shipyard Ltd. in downtown Mumbai to negotiate and sign a cooperative agreement between the two societies.

The group agreed on four areas of cooperation:  membership, Web-based interaction, technical publications and technical and research activities.  The collaboration between INAI and SNAME will bring greater value and the sharing of technical information between the two groups. 

To encourage membership in SNAME, a tiered system was instituted on January 1, 2006.  The annual cost of membership in SNAME, which is $150 worldwide, will remain at that level in North America and other nations categorized as high-income by the World Bank, but will be reduced by half, to $75, in those nations classified as upper-middle income economies, and by 75%, to $37.50, in all other nations, including India.  This tiered dues structure will facilitate those in the maritime industry in the important maritime country of India to take advantage of the many benefits of SNAME.
 
The reduced fees will apply to the newest category of membership (Electronic Membership) with the following benefits:
•    On-line access to the most complete database of technical knowledge in the maritime industry
•    On-line access to all SNAME publications, including Marine Technology (included) the Journal of Ship Production (additional subscription required), the Journal of Ship Research (additional subscription required), and the SNAME NewsLetter;
•    The ability to participate in SNAME’s world-renowned Technical & Research program, in which over 100 panels of experts study and publish technical memoranda and other documents concerning issues of concern to the industry
•    On-line access to SNAME’s calendar of maritime conferences and events worldwide, and the ability as a member to advertise meetings and conferences on the calendar
•    On-line purchase of SNAME reference books, texts and journals at the members’ discount the opportunity to publish technical papers for electronic distribution.

The Society of Naval Architects and Marine Engineers is an internationally recognized non-profit, technical, professional society of individual members serving the maritime offshore, naval and small craft industries and their suppliers.  It administers and supports an extensive technical and research program in cooperation with government and regulatory agencies, scientific and research laboratories, academic institutions and the marine industry.
