DNV Petroleum Services (DNVPS) officially opened its new specialist fuel laboratory in Algeciras, Spain, as part of the company’s strategy to reduce simple transit time and speed up the release of fuel testing results for ships taking bunkers in Southern Europe and the Mediterranean. The sixth fully owned testing facility in the DNVPS network, DNVPS Algeciras caters for vessels calling at Algeciras and nearby ports, such as Gibraltar, Ceuta, Almeria, Cadiz, Huelva and Malaga. Its location helps reduce sample transit time, typically ranging from one to three days, to a matter of hours. DNVPS managing director Rex Lim said that expediting sample delivery is crucial in situations where a vessel has received an off-specification fuel. With faster test results turnaround, DNVPS helps the vessel limit and even avoid fuel-related damages to its machinery.
