Late last year two unusual vessels from Alnmaritec arrived in Iraq on their way to serve in Basrah. The two sisters, Arttawi I & II are modified Wave Worker class boats designed for oil spill protection duties at a busy oil terminal. The boats are 12m long with a catamaran hull form and carry a hydraulic oil boom deployment reel as well as a range of oil recovery and dispersant equipment and recovered oil storage.  The spacious aft deck has a hydraulic knuckle boom crane and the boats are fitted with twin 25KVA generator sets providing a significant on-board power capability.

The air conditioned accommodation provides sleeping accommodation for four crew together with toilet, shower and galley facilities. The raised wheelhouse contains all the principal control equipment and a comprehensive communications and navigation suite including single side band radio and radar; commenting on the new boats Alnmaritec Managing Director Chris Millman said “We are delighted to have supplied these boats into Iraq which opens up a completely new market for us – they may not be the prettiest looking boats but they are certainly unique and pack an awful lot into a relatively small space.“
