Russian Trawler Capsizes In Gulf of Finland

November 15, 2000

A Russian trawler sank on Wednesday after being hit by a Panamanian-registered refrigerator vessel, spewing some of its fuel into the Gulf of Finland, officials said.

It was reported that the 1,500-ton Nortlandia capsized after the collision, which occurred at the naval base of Kronstadt, off St. Petersburg. Technicians reportedly encountered some problems with containing the vessel's spillage, which totaled approximately 15 tons of diesel fuel from a total of 80 tons in its tanks.

Trite but true, the path to decarbonization has no ‘silver bullet’ solution.
