Tom Dow, a 28-year travel industry veteran, has
been named vice president - public affairs for Miami-based Carnival
Corporation & plc.
In this newly created position, Dow serves as Carnival Corporation & plc's
liaison to federal and state governments and local communities in North
America. He also serves as Carnival Corporation & plc's representative for
industry organizations such as the International Council of Cruise Lines
(ICCL) and the Northwest CruiseShip Association (NWCA) and works closely
with the company's legal, environmental, medical, and shipbuilding
departments to coordinate policies and positions on various industry issues.
Dow reports directly to Carnival Corporation & plc Chairman and CEO Micky
Arison and Vice Chairman and COO Howard Frank.
"As Carnival Corporation & plc has grown during recent years, so has
its need for a liaison with federal, state and local governments. We are
very pleased to be able to appoint such a highly respected and knowledgeable
travel industry professional as Tom to assume this important role," Arison
said.
One of the most visible executives in the cruise industry, Dow has
been vice president of public affairs for Princess Cruises and Tours for the
past seven years. Prior to that, he served as vice president of Princess
Tours' hotel division for two years. From 1975-1994, Dow held various
management positions, including vice president of statewide operations and
tourism, with NANA Development Corporation, one of the Alaska Native
Regional Corporations that is involved in hotel and tour operations, food
service and various other interests.
Dow currently serves as a director of the Cruise Industry Charitable
Foundation and sits on several committees for the ICCL and NWCA. He is also
past president of Alaska Visitors Association and received the
organization's North Star award in 1990. He has served on the boards of the
Alaska Travel Industry Association, Alaska Tourism Marketing Council, and
was chairman and a board member of the Alaska Native Tourism Council.
Dow holds a B.A. in political science from the University of
Northern Colorado.
